What is the new controversy regarding Vivek Ramaswami’s removal from the Ministry of Government Efficiency? Did Elon Musk remove him from this new ministry? Or did Ramaswami himself decide to leave it and has agreed to take up some other responsibility? Apart from this, what discussions are going on in the American media regarding Ramaswami’s resignation? Let’s know…

Just after Donald Trump assumed the presidency in the US, it came to light that Vivek Ramaswami, one of the two founding members of the new department formed in the government, Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), will no longer be a part of it. That is, the leadership of DOGE will remain in the hands of Elon Musk only. Since this news came out, the news of a rift in the Republican Party in America is spreading rapidly. While the Democratic Party is already attacking Elon Musk, Elon Musk and Ramaswami themselves have not said anything on this issue.

In such a situation, it is important to know what is the new controversy regarding Vivek Ramaswami’s removal from DOGE? Did Elon Musk remove him from this new ministry? Or has Ramaswami himself decided to leave it and has agreed to some other responsibility? Apart from this, what discussions are going on in the American media about Ramaswami leaving the post? Let’s know…

How did the idea of setting up DOGE come about?

According to reports, Elon Musk gave this idea to Donald Trump. Musk believed that America spends more than necessary on many of its projects and schemes. Not only this, Musk also talked about having more government personnel in government departments than necessary. The Tesla founder believes that due to more personnel in the federal government, red tape had increased and the government should work on increasing its efficiency with fewer personnel. Musk claimed that by reducing the federal budget, he could save the government two trillion dollars.

After this proposal of Musk, for the first time in August 2024, during a rally in the presidential election campaign, Trump said that if he is elected, he will appoint Musk as an advisor in the government. In response to this, Musk posted a picture made of AI on X, in which he showed himself standing in front of an office titled Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In this post, Musk said – I am ready to serve.

It is said that Musk got the name of the ministry from the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, which is promoted by the world’s richest man himself. This cryptocurrency is based on a popular dog Shiba Inu, which has been a part of social media memes for many years. This dog was called Doge in the memes and Musk himself has used the word Doge on many occasions.

While these reports were coming out, Vivek Ramaswami also confirmed his departure from the DOD by posting on X. He wrote in it, “It was an honor for me to establish and support the DOD. I am confident that Elon and the team will succeed in keeping the government in the mainstream. I will soon talk about my future plans in Ohio.” 1. So was Ramaswami removed due to the dislike of Republican leaders? Reports in the American media also claimed mutual differences between Ramaswami and Musk. There were reports of attempts by Musk’s supporters to reduce Ramaswami’s power and remove him from the ministry. Politico, quoting three people close to the Tesla and SpaceX chief, claimed that Musk himself had expressed that he wanted to remove Ramaswami from the DOD. A major reason for this was his comment during the H-1B visa controversy, in which he questioned the American system in December last year and said that tech companies hire foreign workers because the people of this country have a mindset that respects mediocrity more than excellence.

Apart from this, the New York Times has also said in the report that along with Elon Musk, Donald Trump was also personally unhappy with Vivek Ramaswami’s comments during the H-1B visa controversy. He was also angry about being dragged into this issue. Many close to Trump, including former White House officer Steve Bannon, were not happy with Ramaswami’s statements.

It was said in this report that many leaders of the Republican Party already wanted to remove Vivek Ramaswami from the ministry. But after his post, Musk supporters got an excuse to wage a war against Ramaswami and Musk expelled Ramaswami amid this situation.

  1. Or did he step down because he was contesting for the post of Governor?

In the same report of Politico, another big claim has been made regarding Ramaswami’s exit. It is said that Vivek Ramaswami was preparing to stand for the post of Governor of Ohio. In such a situation, Musk felt that it would be easy for Ramaswami to campaign for the post of Governor while working in the DOS.

The possibility of this claim of Musk’s close aide being correct is also found in the statement of Trump’s transition team spokesperson Anna Kelly. In fact, after Ramaswami’s departure from the DOS, Kelly praised him and said that the Republican leader of Indian origin played an important role in the establishment of the DOS and now due to his plan to stand for the post of Governor, it was necessary that he should step down from the Department of Government Efficiency.

In this matter, a close aide of Ramaswami also said that he has no differences with Musk. But the possibility of him doing both the tasks simultaneously – standing for the post of Governor and running a government department – was very less.

Musk and Ramaswami were not in agreement on direct association with the government?

On the other hand, a report in The Washington Post newspaper said that there was a rift between Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswami due to the difference in the working style of the Ministry of Government Efficiency. According to this, Ramaswami wanted his ministry to work like a think tank, which could suggest which government agencies and departments need to be retrenched and which to be closed. Apart from this, which regulators and rules should be abolished without parliamentary approval.

On the other hand, Elon Musk’s focus was on reducing expenses and promoting the use of technology. According to the report, Musk wanted to promote better use of technology in government work only through this ministry. In the executive order of Trump under which the Ministry of Government Efficiency has been formed, this ministry has also been given unlimited technical access. They have got access to unclassified records, software systems and IT systems of all agencies. There are speculations that Elon Musk wanted to limit this access to his own benefit only.

American media group ‘The Hill’ has claimed, citing sources, that Musk would get an office for the Ministry of Government Efficiency in the White House premises itself, so he wanted to keep his team under the government, while Vivek Ramaswamy’s plan was to run this institution as a completely non-governmental organization. It is said that differences had emerged between the two over this. Musk had established himself in the White House and was constantly preparing to stay close to Donald Trump.

Candidacy for Ohio Governor likely to be announced soon
Republican Party leader Vivek Ramaswami, who is contesting for the 2024 presidential candidate, may soon announce his candidacy for the Ohio Governor’s election next year. 39-year-old Ramaswami, a resident of Cincinnati, had shown interest in the recently vacated Senate seat of Vice President JD Vance. However, current Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has chosen Lieutenant Governor John Husted as JD Vance’s successor. In such a situation, Ramaswami can now present his candidacy for the post of Governor of Ohio.
Many questions remain on Ramaswami’s sudden resignation
Donald Trump did not talk about Vivek Ramaswami’s removal from the Ministry of Government Efficiency in his speech on Sunday, just a day before the swearing-in. Trump even said that we have great people like Elon Musk and Vivek, who are working to reduce expenses.
Not only this, Ramaswami was seen around Trump during his swearing-in. On one occasion, he was seen talking to Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff Suzy Wiles.

Apart from this, on the day of Trump’s swearing-in, Ramaswami had also posted a photo of him shaking hands with Musk, in which he wrote – ‘A new morning.’

However, on the same morning, a close aide of Ramaswami confirmed that he was leaving the ministry. Shortly after this, Ramaswami himself announced his decision to leave the DOD.
