Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has secured first place in the Fame India magazine–Asia Post “Best Chief Minister Survey 2026”, scoring 897 out of 1,000 points, according to results announced on November 1.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami finished second with 881 points, followed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with 874 points. The ranking represents the assessment conducted by the two organisations.

Governance and Leadership Among Assessment Areas

The survey assessed chief ministers across ten stated parameters covering good governance, law and order, personality, public image, efficiency, influence, understanding of departments, popularity, vision, and working style and results.

The assessment considered transparency, accountability and public-service delivery under governance, alongside citizen safety, crime control and the rule of law. Leadership, communication, decision-making and public credibility also formed part of the evaluation, according to published accounts of the methodology.

Three-Stage Assessment Process

According to the organisers’ methodology as reported by Hindustan, the exercise ran for approximately three to four months and involved three stages.

The first examined reactions, discussions and perceptions reflected in social and traditional media. The second incorporated assessments from prominent individuals and intellectuals across different fields. The third involved direct interaction with members of the public to gather their experiences and views.

Information collected through these stages was used to assign scores on a 1,000-point scale.

Fifteen Chief Ministers Recognised

The published results place the top ten leaders in the “Best Chief Minister” category and those ranked 11th to 15th in a separate “Mukhyamantri Pancharatna” category.

Following the leading three, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ranks fourth, Jharkhand’s Hemant Soren fifth and Andhra Pradesh’s N. Chandrababu Naidu sixth.

Sikkim’s Prem Singh Tamang, Telangana’s A. Revanth Reddy, Madhya Pradesh’s Mohan Yadav and Meghalaya’s Conrad Sangma complete the top ten. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis heads the Pancharatna category, followed by Rekha Gupta, Omar Abdullah, Bhupendra Patel and Bhajanlal Sharma.

The scores are the survey’s assessment marks; 897 out of 1,000 should not be interpreted as an 89.7 per cent public approval rating.
