State Government Appeals to Public to Disregard Rumors of Petrol-Diesel Crisis
Raipur: The Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection has stated here on Friday April 24, 2026 that, in addition to having an adequate stock of petrol and diesel available in the state, the supply chain remains completely normal.
There is no situation of shortage whatsoever. It is worth mentioning that, in light of the prevailing circumstances in West Asia, the State Government remains in constant contact with the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to ensure the uninterrupted fulfillment of the state’s fuel requirements.
Officials from the Food Department informed that sufficient reserves of LPG, petrol, and diesel are available within the state.
Weekly reviews of the supply situation are being conducted regularly to ensure that common consumers do not face any inconvenience.
The administration has appealed to citizens to disregard any rumors circulating regarding the matter.
Adequate quantities of petrol and diesel are available at the 2,516 petrol pumps operating across the state, as well as at the depots of the three major oil companies.
In March 2026, against a monthly petrol requirement of 1.01 lakh kiloliters, a supply of 1.27 lakh kiloliters (126 percent) was provided. Similarly, in April 2026, as of April 23, 1.60 lakh kiloliters of petrol have already been received.
Likewise, in March, against a diesel requirement of 1.64 lakh kiloliters, a supply of 3.00 lakh kiloliters (183 percent) was provided, while in April 2026—up to April 23—1.38 lakh kiloliters of diesel have been supplied.
It is evident that the supply within the state is being effectively ensured in accordance with the demand.
Officials further stated that surprise inspections and raids are being conducted across all districts to curb hoarding and black marketing. Control rooms have been established at every level, ranging from the state to the district level.
Additionally, the departmental call center (1800-233-3663) is actively functioning to address and resolve complaints from the general public. On April 23, 2026, a review meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Director of the Food Department, attended by representatives from the three oil companies.
During the meeting, it came to light that certain industrial consumers are purchasing diesel from retail outlets, thereby creating a situation of temporary strain on supplies.
Consequently, the companies have been directed to ensure that supply is maintained in accordance with demand.
As per the current situation, approximately 77,111 kiloliters of petrol are available in the state, which is equivalent to the requirement for approximately 22 days. Similarly, 84,295 kiloliters of diesel are available, which is sufficient to meet consumption needs for about 15 days.
The government has reiterated its assurance that adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available within the state, and that supplies remain completely normal.
