Russia Recognise Taliban Government: A big decision by India’s best friend Russia has left Pakistan stunned. The Taliban government of Afghanistan said on Thursday July 3, 2025 that Russia has become the first country to officially recognise its rule. Several other countries, including China and Pakistan, have Taliban ambassadors in their capitals, but they have not officially recognised the Islamic Emirate.

The announcement was made after a meeting in Kabul between Afghanistan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki and Russia’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov. Muttaki said in a post on X that this bold decision would be an example for others. Now that the process of recognition has begun, Russia was ahead of everyone.

Taliban Foreign Ministry spokesman Zia Ahmed Takal told AFP that Russia is the first country to officially recognise the Islamic Emirate. Moscow’s special representative for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, told Russia’s state news agency RIA Novosti that the government has recognised the Taliban government.

India will benefit
Pakistan can now be crushed due to the friendship between Russia and India. There is a dispute between the Afghan government and Pakistan regarding Tehreek-e-Taliban, because Pakistan believes that TTP is responsible for many attacks in their country.

Taliban’s relations with India are gradually improving since 2021. Foreign Secretary Vikram Mistry met Taliban leaders some time ago. Russia’s recognition will give the Taliban legitimacy on the global stage and provide India with opportunities to further strengthen its infrastructure in Afghanistan.
