UP News: Abbas Ansari sentenced to 2 years in hate speech case, court imposed a fine of 3 thousand; MLA post in danger

Hate Speech News: Abbas Ansari was sentenced to two years in prison on Saturday May 31, 2025 in a hate speech case in the Mau district court of Uttar Pradesh. Abbas Ansari appeared in the Mau court at around 10:30 am. Before the sentencing, a large number of police forces were deployed outside the court.

The decision in the case of hate speech and violation of election code of conduct during the last assembly elections was given on Saturday. After hearing the arguments of the parties in the case, CJM Dr. KP Singh had fixed May 31, 2025 as the date for the decision. After the hearing, the court convicted Abbas Ansari in the case of violation of the code of conduct and sentenced him to two years of imprisonment. Along with this, a fine of three thousand rupees has also been imposed.

According to the information, the case is of the city Kotwali area. According to the prosecution in the case, an FIR was registered in the city Kotwali on the complaint of SI Gangaram Bind. In this, Sadar MLA Abbas Ansari and others were made accused.

It was alleged that on March 3, 2022, during the assembly elections, Abbas Ansari, who was contesting as a Subhaspa candidate from Sadar assembly seat, gave a hate speech. During the public meeting in the Paharpur ground of the city, it was said that the Mau administration was threatened from the stage to settle accounts after the elections and teach them a lesson after that.

In this case, Abbas’s associate Mansoor Ansari has also been sentenced. Under section 120B IPC, he has been sentenced to six months and fined one thousand rupees.

Section – 120 B, IPC, criminal conspiracy
Section- 153 A, IPC, promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc. and doing any act which adversely affects the maintenance of harmony
Section – 189 IPC, threatening to cause injury to public servant
Section- 171 F IPC, punishment for undue influence at elections or impersonation
Section – 506 IPC, punishment for criminal intimidation
