Gujarat High Court has granted 3 months interim bail to Asaram on medical grounds, this decision has been taken under the directions of Supreme Court, according to which he is already out of jail on interim bail till March 31.
Due to lack of consensus in the division bench, the matter was sent to the larger bench. After hearing, the larger bench granted interim bail for 3 months.
Gujarat High Court has granted 3 months interim bail to Asaram on medical grounds, this decision has been taken under the directions of the Supreme Court, according to which he is already out of jail on interim bail till 31 March. Asaram had sought 6 months interim bail in Gujarat High Court. Due to lack of consensus in the division bench of two judges, the matter was sent to the larger bench. After hearing, the larger bench granted 3 months interim bail.
How long will he stay out of jail?
Now Asaram has been allowed to stay out of jail till 30 June 2025. This bail has been granted on medical grounds, which means his treatment will continue. Asaram has been in jail since 2013 and several cases related to sexual assault are registered against him.
Earlier he was granted parole till 31 March
Earlier, keeping in mind the health problems of 87-year-old Asaram, Jodhpur Court had granted him parole till March 31. However, the court had also imposed several conditions in the parole. Under which he cannot meet his followers. Along with this, he cannot preach or talk to the media. As per the instructions of Jodhpur Court, three policemen will also be present with Asaram during parole. It is being told that he is suffering from many major diseases including prostate, heart blockage. He is being treated with naturopathy, Ayurvedic Panchkarma under the supervision of doctors.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment in a rape case
Asaram is serving life imprisonment in a 2013 rape case. First the Supreme Court and then a bench of Jodhpur Court have granted him interim bail on health grounds so that he can get treatment.
