Delhi New CM : Rekha Gupta will be the new Chief Minister of Delhi, swearing-in ceremony tomorrow afternoon

The BJP has named Rekha Gupta as Delhi’s new Chief Minister. A seasoned BJP leader, Gupta has held key roles in student politics, municipal governance, and party leadership. She will take the oath on Thursday February 20, 2025 .

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named  Rekha Gupta as the new Chief Minister of Delhi following the party’s resounding victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. The decision was announced after a party meeting on Wednesday.

Gupta, a senior BJP leader, has played a crucial role in the party’s state and national leadership and is set to take the oath of office on February 20 at 11:00 am, along with Deputy CM Parvesh Verma. Six other minister will also sworn in.

Gupta contested the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections from the Shalimar Bagh constituency and secured 68,200 votes, defeating AAP’s Bandana Kumari by a margin of 29,595 votes, according to the Election Commission of India.

Who Is Rekha Gupts?

Rekha Gupta has been an influential figure in Delhi politics for decades. She previously served as the general secretary and president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), winning the presidential post in 1996–1997. Over the years, she has risen through the ranks, becoming a member of the BJP’s national executive and the general secretary of the party’s Delhi state unit.

Her political career also includes grassroots leadership. Gupta was elected as a councillor from Uttari Pitampura (Ward 54) in the 2007 Delhi municipal elections and was re-elected from the same ward in 2012. Her extensive experience in student politics, organisational leadership, and governance has solidified her position within the party.

BJP’s Victory in Delhi

In the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, held on February 5, the BJP secured a majority with 48 out of 70 seats, ending the decade-long rule of Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which won 22 seats. The Congress, once a key player in Delhi politics, failed to secure any seats. The election results, announced on February 8, aligned with exit poll predictions forecasting a BJP win.

Following internal discussions, BJP leaders finalised Rekha Gupta as their chief ministerial candidate in a legislative party meeting on Wednesday February 19, 2025 .
