Raipur: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah spoke to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai over the telephone on Thursday, October 29, 2026, to review the situation arising from Cyclone Arnab. Sai briefed him on rainfall across the state and the prevailing conditions, stating that no flooding or loss of life had been reported from anywhere in Chhattisgarh so far, according to a state government release.
During the conversation, the Chief Minister informed Shah that the state was receiving rainfall under the influence of the cyclone. He said the government was closely monitoring developments and remained alert to respond to any change in conditions.
The discussion focused on the situation in Chhattisgarh and the precautions being taken to protect residents. Shah assured all possible assistance to the affected states, prompting Sai to express his gratitude for the Centre’s support.
Sai said Chhattisgarh was experiencing cyclone-related rainfall, but no flooding or loss of life had been reported at the time of the briefing. He added that the administration remained vigilant and prepared to respond as required.
The Chief Minister emphasised that public safety remained the government’s foremost concern. He said the departments concerned were working in coordination with district administrations to take necessary precautions and ensure that relief and rescue operations could begin promptly wherever required.
This coordination, he said, was intended to help the administration respond quickly to emerging needs while maintaining a close watch on local conditions.
“The safety of the people of Chhattisgarh is the state government’s top priority,” Sai said.
The absence of reported flooding or fatalities formed a key part of the Chief Minister’s briefing. Nevertheless, Sai said the state government was maintaining its alertness and continuing precautionary measures rather than easing its monitoring.
He conveyed that the government’s response would remain guided by conditions on the ground, with departments and district authorities coordinating any necessary assistance.
Sai thanked Shah for reaching out to assess the situation and for assuring support to the states affected by the cyclone. The conversation provided an opportunity to communicate the state’s immediate assessment directly to the Union Home Minister and reaffirm coordination between the Centre and the state.
Sai expressed gratitude for the assurance of assistance and said necessary precautions were being taken to enable immediate relief and rescue measures whenever required.
As part of the wider assessment, Shah also spoke to the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Puducherry, in addition to Chhattisgarh, to review cyclone-related conditions.
According to the release, the Chhattisgarh government continued to monitor the situation following the discussion, with public safety, administrative coordination and readiness to provide assistance remaining its priorities.
