New Delhi: Security has been significantly strengthened across parts of central New Delhi on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 ahead of a planned march by Opposition MPs towards the Election Commission of India headquarters amid the continuing controversy involving Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Delhi Police have deployed additional personnel around Jantar Mantar, Sansad Marg, Vijay Chowk and Nirvachan Sadan, while multiple layers of barricades have been erected to regulate movement and prevent any breach of security. Rapid Action Force personnel have also been positioned at sensitive locations.

The INDIA bloc MPs are expected to march towards the Election Commission headquarters as part of their continuing campaign over alleged irregularities in the electoral-roll revision process and their demand for action against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

The demonstration comes against the backdrop of an escalating political dispute over voter registration procedures and Form 6.

Opposition leaders have accused the CEC of making improper changes to the voter-registration process. The Election Commission, however, has rejected the allegation, maintaining that Form 6 itself was not modified and that a supplementary declaration was introduced in connection with the SIR process.

The issue has also reached the Supreme Court, which recently clarified that it had not approved modifications to Form 6, adding another dimension to the political confrontation between Opposition parties and the poll body.

Security around the protest zone has remained heightened following several demonstrations in recent days. On Sunday, a protest demanding the CEC’s resignation turned tense after demonstrators breached barricades and blocked buses carrying detainees; police said personnel were injured and more than 100 protesters were detained.

Police authorities say the latest deployment and barricading are preventive measures intended to maintain law and order as Opposition leaders converge on central Delhi.

With the electoral-roll controversy now involving political protests, court proceedings and competing claims from Opposition parties and the Election Commission, Tuesday’s march is expected to keep the spotlight firmly on the functioning of the poll body and the continuing demand for accountability from CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
