Aichi-Nagoya, Japan: Indian golfer Pranavi Urs created history on Saturday by becoming the country’s first woman to win an individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games.
The 23-year-old from Mysuru completed the four-round women’s individual stroke-play competition at 15-under 265, holding her nerve through the final round to claim the title.
Pranavi had entered the final day with a three-shot advantage. Despite facing pressure during the concluding round, she recovered to retain control of the competition and finish at the top of the leaderboard.
The triumph places her alongside Lakshman Singh, who won men’s individual gold in 1982, and Shiv Kapur, who achieved the feat in 2002, as India’s individual Asian Games golf champions.
Pranavi’s performance also contributed to another medal for India. Together with Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar, she helped the Indian women’s team secure silver in the team competition.
The double-medal performance — an individual gold and team silver — marks a significant achievement for Indian women’s golf at the continental Games.
