Ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, rumors have surfaced regarding a potential alliance between actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and the BJP. Media reports claim that the BJP has proposed offering TVK 80 seats and appointing Vijay as the Deputy Chief Minister.
As the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections draw closer, political activity within the state has intensified. Recent media reports suggest that negotiations regarding an alliance between actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and the BJP are in their final stages.
According to sources, the BJP has extended a significant offer to Vijay to join the alliance. It is reported that the BJP has proposed allocating 80 seats to Vijay’s party. Additionally, the BJP has put forward a proposal to appoint Vijay as the Deputy Chief Minister.
However, several reports claim that Vijay aspires to the post of Chief Minister, and this ambition is creating a sticking point in the ongoing negotiations.
BJP Facilitating Mediation!
The BJP is employing various strategies to bring Vijay into the NDA fold. It is reported that the party is utilizing the services of a Deputy Chief Minister from another state to mediate these discussions. The primary reason for the BJP’s keen interest in Vijay is his massive fan following.
Why Does the BJP Seek Vijay’s Support?
BJP strategists believe that in the fiercely contested elections of Tamil Nadu, even a margin of just 2 percent of the votes can alter the outcome. Given that the state’s electoral history features numerous instances where victory or defeat was decided by very slim margins, Vijay’s support could prove to be a decisive factor for the BJP.
What Do Vijay’s Advisors Say?
On the other hand, reports regarding a potential alliance with the BJP have heightened concerns among Vijay’s close advisors. Some of his advisors believe that joining a national alliance so soon could damage the party’s ‘independent image.’ Vijay has positioned his party as a ‘third alternative’ within the state.
The advisors fear that joining the NDA could undermine the party’s credibility, as well as the very narrative upon which he entered politics.
