A major shift is about to occur in Bihar politics, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar likely to be elected to the Rajya Sabha. As a result, speculation has begun regarding the name of the new Chief Minister of Bihar. Nitish’s son Nishant could be appointed Deputy CM.

Patna : A major upheaval appears to be brewing in Bihar politics. According to sources, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may be elected to the Rajya Sabha. The big question is: who will take over as Chief Minister of Bihar after Nitish Kumar’s departure to the Rajya Sabha?

According to JDU sources, Nitish Kumar has prepared his nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat. The party has prepared all the necessary documents for Nitish’s nomination, and he will file his nomination tomorrow. There are also reports that Nitish Kumar may resign from the post of Chief Minister after March 16th. He will remain Chief Minister of Bihar until the Rajya Sabha elections are held on March 16th.

In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the BJP dominated with 89 seats. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU came in second with 85 seats. The NDA alliance also included Chirag Paswan’s party (LJP-RV), Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM, and Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM.

Who will become the Chief Minister of Bihar after Nitish Kumar?

It is clear that the BJP’s dominance in power in Bihar is paramount. This is why the BJP could assume the reins of power after Nitish Kumar. If this happens, it would be a major turning point in Bihar’s history, as after a long time, a BJP leader will occupy the Chief Minister’s chair.

Nishant Kumar to become Deputy CM!

Sources suggest that Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, is also set to receive a significant responsibility. He could be appointed Deputy CM of Bihar.

One person cannot be a member of two houses.
The Indian Constitution states that no person can be a member of two houses simultaneously.
Nitish Kumar is currently a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and the Chief Minister of the state. If he is elected to the Rajya Sabha, he will have to resign from his membership in the Bihar Legislative Assembly and resign as Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister’s resignation means the resignation of the entire Council of Ministers.

If the Chief Minister resigns from his post, it technically means the resignation of the entire Council of Ministers. Therefore, after the post becomes vacant, the ruling coalition (NDA) must re-elect its new leader. This leader could be from either the BJP or the JDU.
