Lalu Prasad Yadav is once again going to become the national president of his party Rashtriya Janata Dal. Only formalities are being completed for Lalu to become RJD president for the 13th time. On Monday, Lalu Yadav reached the RJD state office and filed his nomination.

Lalu filed his nomination in front of the party’s national election officer Ramchandra Purve. The way for Lalu Yadav to be elected unopposed for the post of president has also been cleared and Lalu Yadav’s coronation is also fixed on July 5.

Assembly elections are to be held in Bihar this year. In this regard, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s re-election to the post of national president is very special. Lalu’s coronation is important in view of the politics within the Lalu family and the current challenges before the Grand Alliance. In the 2020 assembly elections, RJD had made Tejashwi Yadav the face, even then Lalu Prasad Yadav was the national president of the party but Tejashwi got most preference over Lalu in poster banners.

Tejashwi Yadav led the entire election campaign, yet the Mahagathbandhan did not win and Tejashwi Yadav missed out on becoming the Chief Minister. Now, perhaps for this reason, RJD has refrained from distancing itself from Lalu over the leadership and face of the RJD.
