Positions are given in Akharas during Kumbh
One of the objectives of organizing Maha Kumbh is to admit new sadhus into Akharas and to give Naga initiation to sanyasis. All the necessary rituals for this are organized along with Kumbh. Positions are also given in Akharas during this time, which include positions like Kotwal, Khazanchi, Bhandari. Along with this, titles like Naga, Sadar Naga are also given. Akharas also give positions like Mahant, Shrimahant and Mahamandaleshwar during Kumbh. There is also a process for these, in which Pinddaan and Pattabhishek are the main ones.
Kinnar Akhara has also reached the Maha Kumbh of Prayagraj. This Akhara was established in Ujjain in the year 2015 in this century. Mahamandaleshwar Kaushalya Nandgiri ‘Tina Maa’ of Kinnar Akhara talked to ‘ Media ‘ about how Mahamandaleshwars are made in Kinnar Akhara and what are its rules. According to Kaushalya Nandgiri, the Kinnar Akhara is also run like other Akharas. The process of initiation is also the same. They examine the conduct and thoughts of people who take the title of Mahamandleshwar or other. Apart from this, they also check whether he is a renunciate or not. This test is necessary before initiating initiation into Sanyas.
How is initiation into Sanyas done?
The Kinnar Akhara was associated with Juna Akhara. Juna Akhara also has the most number of female Naga Sanyasis. In the year 2013, the Juna Akhara gave the status of Dashnami Sanyasis’ Akhara to Mai Bada associated with it. According to Dhananjay Chopra’s book (Kumbh in India), the Guru of the Akhara itself decides who is eligible to be initiated. After examining the eligibility, the process of initiation begins. In this, first of all, one has to renounce worldly clothes (clothes worn in everyday life) and wear yellow or saffron clothes provided by the Akhara. After this, a bath is taken in the river and only after this bath, Pind Daan is performed under the supervision of the Guru.
After Pind Daan, a bath is taken once again. After purification after this bath, Bhabhut, clothes and Kanthi (a kind of garland) are given by the Guru. Then the Ishtadev is worshipped and after this Danda-Kamandal is given. This whole process is called Panchkarma.
What is Pattabhishek?
In the Akharas, some special sadhus and saints are given special responsibility. This responsibility is associated with the title and the announcement of giving this title is called the process of ‘Pattabhishek’, understand it in simple language that when a person is crowned with a Tilak to take charge of the kingdom, then he is made to sit on the throne and flowers and Akshat are showered on him after putting a garland on him. Similarly, in the saint society also, when a special sadhu or saint is given any responsibility, he is welcomed and respected. After taking sanyaas, when a sanyasi is given a special responsibility in the Akhara, he is welcomed with respect with flowers and garlands. During Maha Kumbh, hundreds of sadhus and saints are consecrated in the Akhara. Through this, they get a special status of respect in the Akhara. After this, they are honored by covering them with a sheet on behalf of the Akhara. This sheet is called a cloth belt, which is called Pattabhishek.
