Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff at his residence in Bandra late on Sunday night following reports that unidentified assailants had opened fire at the actor’s vehicle. Shinde enquired about the actor’s health, reassured his family and promised security assistance, while issuing a stern warning against criminal violence in Mumbai.
The reported incident has raised concerns about the safety of prominent public figures in the city, particularly amid questions about the possible involvement of organised criminal groups.
Shinde’s visit was intended to reassure the actor and his family that the authorities were taking the reported incident seriously.
Shinde Issues Stern Warning Against Gang Violence
Speaking in the aftermath of the reported firing, Shinde adopted a strong position against those responsible for criminal attacks.
“Bullets would be answered with bullets,” he reportedly warned, indicating that the state government would not tolerate gang wars in Mumbai.
The remark reflects the Deputy Chief Minister’s stated determination to prevent organised violence from threatening public safety.
However, the statement should not be interpreted as establishing the identity or motive of the alleged attackers, which would require confirmation through an official investigation.
Deputy Chief Minister Meets Actor and Reassures Family
Shinde visited Shroff’s Bandra residence late on Sunday night and enquired about his condition.
The photograph accompanying the report shows the actor seated beside the Deputy Chief Minister, with visible medical dressings on his upper body and left arm.
Shinde reportedly assured the actor’s family that appropriate security arrangements would be made.
The visit drew attention to concerns surrounding the personal safety of film personalities and the importance of timely action by law-enforcement agencies.
Police Register FIR, Launch Investigation
Mumbai Police registered a First Information Report against three unidentified individuals in connection with the shooting, which occurred in the Juhu area on Sunday evening, October 18.
The case was registered under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act.
The actor escaped direct gunshot injuries, while his driver and another person were injured. Reports indicate that Shroff sustained minor injuries associated with broken glass and gunpowder during the attack.
Shinde Orders Review of Celebrity Security
Shinde said the police had been instructed to investigate the attack thoroughly and identify the criminal network, if any, responsible for the shooting.
“The safety of citizens is our priority,” he asserted, adding that the government would not permit criminal gangs to intimidate film personalities or establish their dominance in Mumbai.
He also directed Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti to review security arrangements for actors and other members of the film industry.
Referring to Mumbai’s crackdown on organised crime during the 1990s, Shinde said the authorities would act firmly to prevent gang violence from returning to the city.
Bishnoi Gang Claim Remains Unverified
A social media post attributed to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
However, police had not authenticated the claim in the initial investigation, and no criminal organisation should be treated as responsible solely on the basis of an unverified online message.
Police have been examining evidence and pursuing leads to determine who planned and carried out the firing.
Three Suspects Reportedly Detained in Rajasthan
In a subsequent development on Monday, October 19, reports emerged that three suspected attackers had been apprehended at Kota railway station in Rajasthan.
According to the reports, two of the suspects are from Haryana and one from Maharashtra. Their alleged involvement and any connection with a criminal gang remain matters for police investigation.
The attack has renewed concerns about security around prominent film personalities in Mumbai, while the Maharashtra government has pledged strict action against those responsible.
