There was a three hour long riot in Nainital on Wednesday. People were furious over the rape of a girl. Shops of other communities were vandalised. Shopkeepers were chased and beaten. There was stone pelting too. Police resorted to lathicharge. The situation is tense at the moment.
Nainital (Uttarakhand) : On Wednesday April 30, 2025 , the normally peaceful Nainital city suddenly witnessed communal tension. From 9:30 pm to 12:30 pm, there was mayhem on the streets. When the case of an old contractor named Usman raping a girl came to light, the news spread like wildfire in the city. Crowds of people gathered on the streets of Mallital. After this, Hindu organisations started vandalizing the shops of people from the Muslim community. Those who protested were chased and beaten up.

Situation of communal tension, heavy police force deployed
The entire market was closed as the atmosphere of the city deteriorated. Seeing the situation of communal tension, a heavy police force reached the spot. The crowd surrounded the Mallital police station demanding the arrested accused to be handed over to them. People were adamant on taking the accused out of the lockup of the police station. They staged a dharna outside the police station itself.

Slogans of Pakistan Murdabad were also raised
Meanwhile, slogans of Pakistan Murdabad were also raised. Some people also pelted stones at the door of the religious place. On this, the police lathicharged and dispersed the crowd. Many people are reported to have been injured during the uproar.
