Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court over the possibility of lakhs of names being removed from the voter list under the Special Intensive Revision in Bihar. On Monday, senior advocate Kapil Sibal demanded an urgent hearing on the matter, on which the Supreme Court has agreed to hear it on Thursday. July 10, 2025.

Kapil Sibal along with senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Shadab Farasat and Gopal Shankarnarayanan mentioned the issue in the Supreme Court and said that due to this process, the names of lakhs of people, especially women and people from the poor section, are likely to be removed from the voter list.

The petitioners demand that this amendment process be stopped immediately. He said that the case should be heard today or tomorrow because the time limit set by the Election Commission is very short. The process of removing names on a large scale is going on across the state within the time limit of July 25.

The petitioners include Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, Mahua Moitra, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL). All of them have filed a petition in the Supreme Court calling this process unconstitutional and anti-people.
