Students will now be able to complete their degree course before time, UGC is going to give a big relief
New Delhi : The University Grants Commission (UGC) is going to introduce a new flexible approach to complete graduation degrees from the 2025-26 academic year. Under this new system, students will have the option to complete a three-year degree in two and a half years or a four-year degree in three years
For students who prefer to study at a slower pace, UGC will offer the option of extending a standard three-year degree to four years and a four-year degree to five years. This flexibility is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises personalised learning timelines and multiple entry and exit points. This will enable students to pause and resume their studies based on individual circumstances
Promotes thinking and problem-solving skills needed for the job market
The four-year degree program will provide additional benefits, such as research projects in the final year, opportunities for patent applications and academic publications. This structure motivates engagement with the subject and better prepares students for future academic or professional work.
The structure of NEP promotes lifelong learning by enabling students to exit and re-enter the educational program without losing previously earned credits. This approach helps reduce dropout rates and supports continuing education throughout an individual’s life.
Students will have the flexibility to explore a variety of subjects during their undergraduate studies. This multisubject option promotes thinking and problem-solving skills needed for today’s job market.
