What information is coming out about the leadership and members of the delegations set up by the Modi government to send a message against Pakistan’s terrorism to the world? Why has it been decided to form a delegation of MPs from the ruling and opposition parties? What are its political implications?

India’s well-planned attack on the hideouts of terrorists hiding in Pakistan has created a stir in the neighboring country. Since Operation Sindoor, Pakistan is not only constantly talking about the losses it has suffered, but knowingly or unknowingly is also providing evidence that is showing its relations with the masters of terror on the global stage. The interesting thing is that even though Pakistan is calling the attacks carried out by India as attacks on civilians and is constantly trying to hide its military losses, this time India, along with carrying out the operation, has also collected such evidence that is constantly exposing it.

While India first presented evidence related to the attack on Pakistan’s airbases, before that the Foreign Secretary shared the picture of the funeral procession of the terrorists killed in Muridke and also informed the whole world about the presence of terrorists and Pakistani army together in it. The shocking thing is that terrorist Rauf was also present in this funeral procession, who has been declared a global terrorist by the US.

If reports are to be believed, India has many more such evidences, which it is going to provide to the international community. Now to convey this evidence to the world, the central government has also announced a delegation led by seven different leaders on Saturday. These delegations will not only include MPs or ministers associated with the government, but also MPs from the opposition. These include the names of Shashi Tharoor of Congress, Supriya Sule of NCP and Kanimozhi of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

In such a situation, it is important to know what information is coming out about the leadership and members of the delegations set up by the Modi government to convey the message against Pakistan’s terrorism to the world? Why has it been decided to form a delegation of MPs from the ruling and opposition parties? What are its political implications?

Apart from this, efforts have been made to include MPs from almost every party in the delegations, so that a message of unity can be given to the whole world. Among these MPs, Anurag Thakur, Aparajita Sarangi, Manish Tiwari, Asaduddin Owaisi, Amar Singh, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Samik Bhattacharya, Brij Lal, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Vikramjit Sahni, Sasmit Patra, Bhuvaneshwar Kalita will also be part of the delegation. Former Union Minister Salman Khurshid has also been included in it. However, he is not an MP at present. The government had also included TMC MP Sudip Bandopadhyay, but he refused due to health reasons.

Why did the Center decide to form a delegation of MPs from the ruling and opposition parties?

We spoke to Sanjay Kumar, Co-Director and Political Analyst at the Center for the Study of Developing Society (CSDS), about the decision of the Central Government to include leaders from the ruling and opposition parties in the delegation to be sent abroad. Analysing this decision of the government, he said,

He said, “For such issues, it is important that not only the MPs and leaders of the ruling party, but the representation of all parties should be increased as much as possible. This will be a welcome step. All such committees should have representatives of different parties and the government has taken this step.”

Why is there a need to send Shashi Tharoor to America?

According to Sanjay Kumar, America considers itself to be different. It has been saying that it is different from the herd mentality. It has been saying that we are the most powerful country in the world. Therefore, they need to be handled differently. For this, a different kind of diplomacy and international experience is needed. It is not that there are no leaders in the government who cannot talk to America. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar himself has experience of the world, he has also been the Foreign Secretary, but if we look at Tharoor, he has more experience of foreign institutions than the country. He has also been in the United Nations.

In such a situation, the government probably wants to take advantage of his skills and bring him forward to deal with the most important country in the world. Diplomacy with America will be quite challenging. Perhaps that is why the government must have thought of giving this responsibility to Shashi Tharoor.

What is the meaning of handing over the leadership to these special leaders?

Sanjay Kumar said that there are mainly three intentions of the government in handing over the leadership of the delegation to some special names.

First – Broad political representation

This shows a broad representation of India’s political faces on the global issue. If you see, the delegation is not only led by BJP leaders, but it includes NDA partner party Shiv Sena leader – Shrikant Shinde, JDU’s Sanjay Kumar Jha. Apart from this, from opposition parties, the names of NCP’s Supriya Sule, Congress’ Shashi Tharoor and DMK’s Kanimozhi are included. Only two names – Ravi Shankar Prasad, Baijayant Jai Panda – were chosen by the BJP to lead the delegation. Clearly, this can be seen as a large political representation.

Second – Gender representation

Apart from this, names of two women leaders have been taken to lead the delegation. One is Supriya Sule and the other is Kanimozhi Karunanidhi. Both these leaders are known for their eloquence in politics and for raising the issues of their respective parties loudly in the political corridors.

Third – Representation of leaders from regional background

According to Professor Kumar, the background of the leaders who have been chosen to lead the delegation will also be different. Whether it is a matter of professional background or regional background.

For example, Shashi Tharoor himself is a well-known face at the international level and has been a diplomat in the past. Similarly, Ravi Shankar Prasad is a lawyer. Kanimozhi has done journalism before joining politics. Similarly, the professional background of the other leaders is also different, which will be useful in different ways in different countries. All these leaders have been assigned delegations and countries according to their skills.

Apart from this, the background of the leaders leading the delegations formed by India has also been kept quite broad. From the south, Shashi Tharoor is an MP from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, while Kanimozhi is from Tamil Nadu. Baijayant Jai Panda is from Odisha in eastern India. Supriya Sule and Shrikant Shinde are from Maharashtra in central India. Ravi Shankar Prasad and Sanjay Kumar Jha are from Bihar.
