Smriti Irani Gets Chhattisgarh, Haryana Charge as BJP Announces New State In-Charges

The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a fresh set of organisational appointments across states and Union Territories, assigning former Union minister and national general secretary Smriti Irani responsibility for Chhattisgarh and Haryana.

New Delhi : BJP national president Nitin Nabin announced the appointments on Wednesday, September 23. Siddharth Shambhu has been appointed co-in-charge of Chhattisgarh, while Bhola Singh will assist Irani as co-in-charge in Haryana. The appointments form part of a wider exercise covering all 28 states and eight Union Territories.

Irani Gets Key Role in Chhattisgarh and Haryana

Irani’s appointment gives her organisational responsibility for two states where the BJP is currently in power. The former Union minister had earlier been brought into Nabin’s national team as a general secretary.

Among the other significant appointments, Sunil Bansal has been given charge of both West Bengal and Telangana, while Vinod Tawde has been assigned Uttar Pradesh. Harish Dwivedi will oversee Bihar and Karnataka.

Satish Poonia has been given responsibility for Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, while Tarun Chugh will oversee Gujarat. Ram Madhav has been assigned Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand.

In Maharashtra, Baijayant Jay Panda has been named in-charge, with Amit Malviya among the co-in-charges. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe has been assigned Delhi, assisted by Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and Darshanaben Jardosh.

For Uttar Pradesh, Tawde will be assisted by four co-in-charges — Jagdish Patel, Medha Kulkarni, Pardeep Varma and Anant Ojha.

The appointments also place D Purandeswari in charge of Odisha, Viplav Kumar Deb in Madhya Pradesh, Sanjay Bhatia in Rajasthan, Arvind Bhadoria in Andhra Pradesh and Mangal Pandey in Assam.

The organisational changes take effect as the BJP prepares its state-level machinery ahead of Assembly elections due in several states in 2027.
