The Supreme Court pulled up Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah for his remarks on Colonel Sofia Qureshi and constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team to probe the FIR lodged against him. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh told the minister that Kot had seen his videos in which he made the remarks and apologised. The bench wondered whether they were crocodile tears or an attempt to avoid legal action.
The Supreme Court on Monday 19, 2025 once again reprimanded Madhya Pradesh government minister Vijay Shah for his statement on Colonel Sofia Qureshi. The Supreme Court said that we are not ready to accept the minister’s apology in this matter. The court further said, “You are a public face. An experienced leader. You should weigh your words before speaking.
We should play your videos here. This is an important issue for the army. We have to be very responsible in this matter.” The Supreme Court has also constituted an SIT in this case. Three senior IPS officers have been included in it. There will also be a woman officer among them. All three officers will be from outside Madhya Pradesh and will investigate the minister’s statement against Colonel Sofia Qureshi. ‘The whole country is ashamed due to the comment’ Justice Suryakant said, ‘The whole country is ashamed because of this comment. We saw your videos. You were about to use very foul language, but maybe your understanding worked or your mind stopped you or it may be that you did not find the right words. You should be ashamed. The whole country is proud of our army and you made this statement.’
‘You should be ashamed’
The bench asked the minister, ‘What kind of apology was this? You should have just accepted your mistake and apologized, but you say that if you have said this and that… then I apologize. This is not the way to apologize. The kind of lewd comment you have made, you should be ashamed.’
‘The first report should be filed by May 28’
The apex court has asked the Director General of Police of Madhya Pradesh to constitute a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by an IG rank officer by 10 am on Tuesday. This team will also include a woman officer. This team will investigate the FIR registered after the order of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The bench said that the first report should be filed by the SIT by May 28, 2025.
