The US military had earlier attacked Iran’s Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz nuclear sites. With this, America has joined Israel in the fight against Iran. Israel’s aim is to destroy Iran’s nuclear program, so as to weaken a long-standing enemy, despite the fears of a wider regional conflict.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Saeed Abbas Araghchi on Sunday June 22 , 2025 condemned the US for carrying out airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and called it a serious violation of international law, the UN Charter and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). In a strongly worded statement posted on ‘X’, Araghchi accused the US, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, of committing criminal behaviour by targeting peaceful nuclear installations.
‘Every UN member should be concerned’
The Iranian foreign minister said in a post, “This morning’s events are outrageous. It will have infinite consequences. Every UN member should be concerned about this extremely dangerous, unlawful and criminal behavior.” Calling on the global community to pay attention to this, he said that every UN member should be concerned about the dangerous and lawless actions taken by Washington.

‘Iran has the right to self-defense’
Citing provisions under the UN Charter, Araghchi also said that Iran has the right to self-defense. It is free to exercise it. Iran reserves all such options. The post said that in accordance with the UN Charter and its provisions that allow a legitimate response in self-defense, Iran reserves all options to protect its sovereignty, interests and people. The statement comes after the US military operation, which targeted three major Iranian nuclear sites Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan last night.
Demand to convene emergency meeting of UN Security Council
Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations on Sunday June 22, 2025 demanded an emergency meeting of the Security Council to condemn the despicable attacks and illegal use of force against Iran. Ambassador Amir Saeed Iravani said the UN’s most powerful body should take all necessary measures to hold the US accountable under international law and the UN Charter. The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns these unprovoked and premeditated acts of aggression, which follow Israel’s massive military attack against Iran’s peaceful nuclear sites and facilities on June 13.
America joins Israeli attacks against Iran
Earlier, America had joined Israeli attacks against Iran. It targeted three nuclear sites. This step was taken after America sent several B-2 stealth bomber jets to Guam. US President Donald Trump confirmed the attacks on Iran’s Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites.
