India’s women compound archers delivered a near-flawless performance in Okazaki on Wednesday, defeating China 238-234 to retain their Asian Games team title while equalling the world record.

The trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep combined precision with composure in the gold-medal contest, finishing with 238 points — matching the existing world record for the event. \

The victory continued India’s strong run in compound archery and ensured that the women successfully defended the Asian Games crown won at Hangzhou in 2023.

China, represented by Wunier, Yue Wang and Fangyao Wei, finished with 234 points to take silver.

One-Point Thriller Before the Final

India had faced a much tighter contest against South Korea in the semifinal.

With little separating the two teams, the Indian trio held their nerve to prevail 234-233, earning their place in the title contest by a single point.\

China awaited them in the final, but India produced an even stronger performance when the gold medal was at stake.

The 238-point finish not only secured the championship but also brought India level with the world-record mark.\

For Jyothi Surekha Vennam, the triumph also extended an impressive Asian Games team record. She was part of India’s gold-winning women’s compound side at Hangzhou three years ago and has been a member of India’s medal-winning women’s compound teams across successive Asian Games editions.\

South Korea went on to defeat Chinese Taipei for the bronze medal.
