A new political controversy has erupted in Bihar regarding the official residence of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi. Following a government directive to vacate the bungalow located at 10, Circular Road, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, has accused the NDA government of engaging in “vendetta politics.” She asserted that the government is targeting the opposition in an attempt to divert public attention away from pressing issues such as unemployment, inflation, and crime.

Patna : A fresh dispute concerning official bungalows has begun to brew in Bihar’s political landscape. Rohini Acharya, daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, has leveled allegations of “vendetta politics” against the state’s NDA government. This controversy was triggered after former Chief Minister Rabri Devi was issued a directive to vacate the bungalow situated at 10, Circular Road in Patna.

‘If the Government Has the Guts, Let Them Show Us They Can Evict Us’
Taking aim at the government via social media, Rohini Acharya stated that opposition leaders are being harassed in a deliberate effort to divert the public’s attention from critical issues such as unemployment, inflation, corruption, and rising crime rates. She wrote, “If this government truly has the guts, let them try to forcibly evict us from this bungalow.”

Notably, in an order issued on May 27, the Building Construction Department allocated the official residence at 10, Circular Road to Nand Kishore Ram, the Minister for Dairy and Fisheries. This bungalow is situated in close proximity to the Lok Bhawan and the Chief Minister’s official residence. Rabri Devi has been residing in this residence since 2006.

What Did Rabri Devi Say?
Upon returning from a leave of absence on Saturday, Rabri Devi offered a sharp retort when journalists questioned her regarding this issue. She declared that while the government is free to attempt to evict her by force if it so chooses, she would not vacate the bungalow of her own accord.

In her statement, Rohini Acharya characterized the government’s move as a “Tughlaqi farman” (an arbitrary and whimsical decree), arguing that attempting to evict a former Chief Minister from her home by deploying police forces is not an act of democracy, but rather a manifestation of the arrogance of power. She further alleged that the government is preoccupied with the sole agenda of targeting the opposition.

It is worth mentioning that following the RJD’s crushing defeat in the Assembly elections, Rohini Acharya had announced her decision to distance herself from active politics and stay out of family affairs. Rohini first made headlines when she donated a kidney to her father, Lalu Prasad Yadav. She also contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Saran constituency but ultimately faced defeat.

Now, the controversy surrounding Rabri Devi’s official residence appears to be emerging as a new political issue in the landscape of Bihar politics.
