Raipur : The Chhattisgarh State Election Commission has set in motion preparations for the municipal and three-tier panchayat general and bye-elections scheduled for December 2026, issuing the electoral roll revision programme on Tuesday.

State Election Commissioner Ajay Singh said the revision for municipal general elections covers 417 posts. These include the mayoral posts of four municipal corporations — Bhilai, Bhilai-Charoda, Risali and Birgaon — besides 13 municipal president posts and 400 councillor seats.

For municipal bye-elections, electoral rolls will also be revised for one president and six councillor posts.

The exercise extends to the three-tier panchayat system, where electoral rolls are being prepared for elections to 814 posts — one Janpad Panchayat member, 92 Sarpanches and 721 Panches.

October 1 Fixed as Reference Date

According to the programme, the electoral rolls will be prepared with October 1, 2026, as the reference date.

Their preliminary publication is scheduled for October 23, following which claims and objections will be invited. After disposal of the claims and objections received during the revision process, the final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on November 30, 2026.

The State Election Commission has also decided to appoint 33 electoral roll observers — one for each district of Chhattisgarh — to oversee the revision exercise.

The observers will be tasked with helping ensure that preparation and revision of the rolls are completed accurately, transparently and within the prescribed timeframe ahead of the December electoral exercise.
