Birgaon Gets ₹135-Crore Development Push, CM Sai Announces Nearly ₹110 Crore More

₹82-crore sewage treatment plant, expanded water supply, Nalanda campus, roads, sports facilities and model registry office among major initiatives; long-term roadmap planned under State Capital Region

Raipur: Birgaon is set for a major expansion of urban infrastructure, with Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai unveiling a package of development works covering sewage treatment, drinking water, roads, drainage, education, sports facilities, street lighting and other civic amenities.

Addressing a programme organised by Birgaon Municipal Corporation on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 the Chief Minister inaugurated and performed bhoomi pujan for projects worth more than ₹135 crore. Taking into account the area’s future requirements, he also announced nearly ₹110 crore in new development works.

“There is now no obstacle in the construction of a developed Chhattisgarh, and the pace of development will become even faster,” Sai said, outlining the government’s vision of expanding modern infrastructure and civic facilities across the state.

₹82-Crore STP, Water Supply and Roads

One of the biggest announcements was ₹82 crore for construction of a Sewage Treatment Plant in the Birgaon Municipal Corporation area. According to the government, the project is intended to strengthen sewage management and improve sanitation.

Sai also announced ₹10 crore for overhead tanks and expansion of pipelines, ₹5 crore for roads and drains under the infrastructure head and another ₹5 crore for development of a sports ground at Sarora.

The Chief Minister said Birgaon was developing rapidly and that its expanding population and industrial activity required corresponding improvements in roads, drinking water, sanitation, sewerage and other civic infrastructure. He said development works worth more than ₹160 crore had already been provided to the Birgaon Municipal Corporation area during the past two-and-a-half years.

Nalanda Campus and E-Library for Students

Education infrastructure also formed part of the announcements.

A Nalanda campus, equipped with modern study facilities for students and young people preparing for competitive examinations, will be developed in Birgaon at a cost of ₹5 crore.

The Chief Minister also announced ₹89 lakh for an e-library at the government college, along with ₹50 lakh for electrification and repairs at the Community Health Centre in Rawabhata.

Birgaon to Become Part of State Capital Region

The inclusion of Birgaon in the proposed State Capital Region could have longer-term implications for its urban development.

Sai said the government was moving ahead with plans for a State Capital Region incorporating Raipur, Durg-Bhilai and surrounding areas, including Birgaon. A coordinated, planned and long-term development roadmap would be prepared for the region, he said.

“Development does not mean only constructing roads and buildings; it also means making the daily lives of citizens easier,” the Chief Minister said while referring to governance reforms and technology-based public services.

A model registry office will also be established in Birgaon. The state is developing 10 such offices, while online registration and automatic mutation systems are being introduced to simplify land-related services.

Residential Leases After Survey in Seven Areas

Sai announced surveys in Rawabhata, Banjari Nagar, Shaktipara, Mathpara, Sheetalapara, Urkura and Mazdoor Nagar Sarora. Eligible residents will subsequently be provided residential leases in accordance with prescribed rules.

The Chief Minister said providing residential security to poor and needy families remained among the government’s priorities.

Housing Benefits Handed Over

During the programme, beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana participated in a griha pravesh programme. Sai also presented symbolic cheques to beneficiaries of schemes including PM SVANidhi, Mukhyamantri Grih Pravesh Samman Yojana and Noni Suraksha Yojana.

The Chief Minister also dedicated two new fire engines to Birgaon Municipal Corporation, strengthening its fire and emergency response capacity.

Concluding another aspect of the programme, Sai planted a Rudraksha sapling on the government college campus under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, MP Brijmohan Agrawal, MLAs Motilal Sahu, Anuj Sharma and Bhavana Bohra, Mayor Nandlal Devangan and other public representatives, officials and citizens attended the programme.
