Amid the ongoing trade war between the US and China, China has provided the figures of visas issued to Indian citizens this year. Also, the Chinese ambassador to India has asked more and more Indians to visit China.
The Chinese Embassy in India has issued more than 85 thousand visas to Indian citizens between January 1 and April 9, 2025. The Chinese Embassy has released these figures amid the ongoing tariff war with the US. This is being seen as an effort to increase contact between the citizens of the two countries.
China’s Ambassador to India, Shu Feihong, has invited more and more Indians to visit China. Shu wrote in a post on X,
As of April 9, 2025, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in India have issued more than 85 thousand visas to Indian citizens visiting China this year. More and more Indian friends are welcome to visit China so that they can experience an open, safe, vibrant, honest and friendly China.
Last year, the Chinese Embassy updated the rules related to visa application. And many relaxations were also given in it, after which the number of people applying for visa has increased this year.
Indian applicants no longer need to book an online appointment before submitting their visa applications. Instead, they can directly submit the application at the visa centers during working days. Apart from this, those applying for short term, single or double entry visas for less than 180 days are exempted from providing biometric data such as fingerprints. Along with these changes, the Chinese Embassy has also reduced the visa application fee.
Trump’s tariff war
China has announced these figures at a time when the US President Donald Trump’s tariffs are looming over all countries of the world. And China, which is the biggest business partner of the US, is the foremost target.
Trump has increased the tariff on Chinese imports to 145 percent. As a retaliation, China has also imposed a 125 percent tariff on American products. However, Trump has currently stopped the tariffs imposed on other countries.
China has appealed to other countries of the world including India to stand with it against the US tariff policy. Chinese Embassy spokesperson Yu Jing had said recently that being the two largest developing countries, India and China should unite against the US tariff action.
