Shraddha Walker Murder Case: Even today people get scared remembering the Shraddha Walker murder case. This case had shaken the whole country. Vikas Walker was fighting for justice to get justice for his daughter. He was travelling from Mumbai to Delhi after losing everything. He only wanted the law to give him his daughter’s remains so that he could perform her last rites. But his wish remained just a last wish. And he left the world with this pain.
Believe it or not , Shraddha Walker’s father Vikas Walker died of a heart attack in Mumbai on Sunday February, 9, 2025 . He used to live with his wife and family in Vasai area of Mumbai. For the last few months, he was running between Mumbai and Delhi. He was visiting many courts. But all he got was dates after dates.
Shraddha’s father Vikas Walker and brother had made many trips from Mumbai to Delhi. According to the information, in the last two years, Vikas Walker had attended the court 35 to 40 times. During this time, he was not only troubled but also had to bear the expenses of travelling from Mumbai to Delhi and staying and eating separately. But he was constantly fighting for his daughter.
In fact , Shraddha’s murder was revealed on 12 November 2022, when her live-in partner Aftab Poonawala was arrested from Mehrauli area of Delhi. It was only after Aftab’s arrest that it was revealed that he had murdered Shraddha on 18 May 2022 itself. But despite this, Shraddha’s body was not found, because Aftab had first cut Shraddha’s body into pieces and then locked those pieces in the fridge in his rented house in Mehrauli.
After this, for the next three months, he kept taking out those pieces from the fridge in installments and throwing them in the forests of Mehrauli. Since a lot of time had passed, the police had found only a few bones of Shraddha in the name of the body. The DNA test proved that the bones were of Shraddha.
Due to media headlines, the Shraddha case was sent to the fast track court. 75 days after the FIR was registered, i.e. on 24 January 2023, Delhi Police filed a chargesheet in this case. After the chargesheet was filed, the fast track court took almost 3 months to frame the charge. The charge was framed on 9 May 2023. Even after the charge was framed, the court took almost 1 more month to start the trial.
From 1 June 2023, the trial of Shraddha’s case began in Delhi’s Saket Court. It was expected that the verdict would come in 6 to 9 months. In the Nirbhaya case too, the fast track court had given its verdict in 9 months. But alas, this did not happen. The trial proceedings have been going on for the last two and a half years. And the situation is that out of the 212 witnesses in this case, the testimony of only 165 witnesses has been completed. That is, the testimony of 47 witnesses is still pending.
Now the question is, why is it taking so much time despite the case being in the fast track court? So there is a very simple reason for this. The fast track court in which Shraddha’s case is, has not received any direction from anywhere whether the hearing of this case will be day to day or like a normal case. If the fast track court was given a limit that it has to give its verdict within this time bound, then perhaps there would not have been so much delay.
But now, when the trial is about to complete 2 years, the fast track court has decided that from next month i.e. March, it will hear this case day to day. This means that the work that was to be done two years ago will now be done after two years. This means that even if the day to day hearing starts from March, there is no hope of a decision coming in the next two years. At least not before May.
But the story will not end even in April-May. Because whatever decision comes from the fast track court, someone or the other will challenge it in the High Court. If the fast track court awards death penalty to Aftab Poonawala, then even in that case the High Court will have to approve the decision. After the High Court, then the Supreme Court, after that who knows how many petitions, review petitions. Obviously, even after death Shraddha will have to visit many courts and until this process is over, Shraddha’s brother will also have to visit many courts from Mumbai to Delhi.
