Expressing his happiness over the historic occasion, Sai said:
“It is a matter of immense pride and happiness for Chhattisgarh that the women’s cricket teams of India and Zimbabwe are playing a three-match T20 international series at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium. The organisation of an international women’s cricket series on our soil for the first time is a significant achievement in the state’s sporting history.”
He observed that the beginning of the first bilateral women’s cricket series between the two countries in Chhattisgarh had made the occasion even more memorable.
International Women Cricketers Will Inspire Chhattisgarh’s Daughters
The Chief Minister emphasised that the importance of the series extended far beyond the cricket field.
According to Sai, the presence of internationally recognised women cricketers would encourage young girls across Chhattisgarh to pursue their ambitions with greater confidence and determination.
He said that witnessing accomplished athletes competing before them would help aspiring players understand the importance of discipline, dedication, perseverance and professional training.
“This is not merely a cricket series. It is an opportunity to inspire the daughters of Chhattisgarh to dream big and work towards achieving those dreams. When our girls watch world-class women cricketers playing before them, they will develop greater confidence to move forward in sports and bring recognition to Chhattisgarh and the country.”
The Chief Minister also praised the achievements of women athletes who have established themselves through hard work and determination at national and international levels.
He described their success as a powerful example of women’s growing contribution to Indian sports.
Free Entry for Women and Girls Promotes Participation
One of the notable features of the historic series was the arrangement of free stadium entry for women and girls.
The initiative was intended to encourage greater female participation in sporting events and allow more women to experience international cricket directly.
Chief Minister Sai said that the decision reflected the government’s broader objective of promoting women’s participation and creating an encouraging environment for young female athletes.
“We have arranged free entry for mothers, sisters and daughters so that more women and girls can connect with sports and witness the performances of international women cricketers. Today, our daughters are demonstrating their talent and capabilities in every field and bringing honour to the nation.”
The initiative also highlighted the importance of making major sporting occasions accessible to a wider section of society.
State Government Committed to World-Class Sports Infrastructure
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to sports development, the Chief Minister said that sustained efforts were being made to provide talented athletes with better facilities, training and competitive exposure.
He stressed that sports infrastructure must be accompanied by opportunities for young athletes to develop their abilities through systematic training and participation in major competitions.
“Our priority is to create a favourable sporting environment in Chhattisgarh, develop world-class sports infrastructure and provide talented players with better training, resources and competitive opportunities. We want the youth of our state to experience national and international sporting culture within Chhattisgarh itself.”
The Chief Minister said that expanding sports facilities and encouraging major competitions would contribute to developing a stronger sporting culture throughout the state.
Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium Emerges as Major Cricket Venue
Highlighting the importance of the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, Sai said the facility had become a valuable asset for the state’s sporting development.
He explained that leasing the stadium to the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh had facilitated the organisation of regular national and international cricket competitions.
The arrangement, he said, was helping cricket enthusiasts enjoy high-quality matches while providing aspiring local cricketers with opportunities to observe and learn from accomplished players.
The Chief Minister recalled that Nava Raipur had previously hosted international cricket encounters involving New Zealand and Australia.
He also referred to the successful organisation of two Indian Premier League matches involving Royal Challengers Bengaluru, facilitated through the state government’s initiative.
According to Sai, the India-Zimbabwe women’s T20 international series represents another important step towards establishing Chhattisgarh as a recognised centre for major cricket events.
International Sporting Events to Boost Tourism, Business and Employment
The Chief Minister underlined the wider economic benefits associated with organising international sporting competitions.
He observed that major sporting events attract players, officials, visitors and spectators from different regions, generating additional economic activity across several sectors.
Tourism, hotels, restaurants, transport services, local businesses and related service industries stand to benefit from increased visitor movement during such occasions.
“Major sporting events not only strengthen the sporting culture of a state but also provide fresh energy to its economy and identity. When players, officials and spectators from different parts of the country and the world visit Chhattisgarh, tourism, hospitality, transport and local businesses benefit, while new opportunities for employment and livelihood are created.”
He said the government recognised the potential of sports tourism as an important component of the state’s broader development.
Nava Raipur Being Developed as International Sports and Events Destination
Chief Minister Sai said that Nava Raipur was rapidly developing into a modern city equipped with advanced infrastructure and facilities capable of supporting major national and international programmes.
He emphasised that the government’s vision extended beyond developing Nava Raipur as a well-planned administrative capital.
The objective, he said, was also to establish the city as an attractive destination for major sporting competitions, cultural programmes and international events.
“Our goal is not only to develop Nava Raipur as a modern and well-organised capital but also to give it a distinct identity as one of the country’s leading sports and events destinations. We are continuously encouraging national and international events while expanding modern sports facilities and ensuring better utilisation of existing infrastructure.”
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that consistent investment in infrastructure and event management would enhance the city’s reputation and attract more high-profile sporting competitions in the future.
Prime Minister Modi’s Leadership Encouraging Sporting Excellence
Referring to the national sporting environment, Sai credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership with creating a positive atmosphere for the development of sports and the encouragement of athletes.
He said Indian women athletes were achieving remarkable success across disciplines and bringing recognition to the country through their performances on international platforms.
The Chief Minister reiterated that Chhattisgarh was working towards identifying emerging talent, nurturing promising athletes and providing platforms for their advancement.
He emphasised that talented young players from the state should have opportunities to progress through appropriate coaching, infrastructure and competitive exposure.
Cricket Series Celebrates Sportsmanship and International Friendship
Extending his best wishes to the women cricketers of India and Zimbabwe, the Chief Minister expressed hope that the series would become a memorable example of sporting excellence, healthy competition and friendship between the two countries.
He said the event would encourage young people, particularly girls, to recognise sports as a meaningful avenue for personal development and achievement.
“I am confident that this historic series will inspire the younger generation of Chhattisgarh, especially our daughters, to take up sports with enthusiasm and determination. It will be remembered as a proud chapter in the sporting history of our state and as a celebration of excellence, sportsmanship and friendship between the two nations.”
The presence of enthusiastic cricket spectators at the stadium added to the significance of the occasion.
Officials of the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh and the Board of Control for Cricket in India, representatives of the sporting fraternity, government officials and a large number of cricket enthusiasts were present during the event.
The historic series has reinforced Chhattisgarh’s ambitions to emerge as a prominent sporting destination while creating new aspirations among the state’s young athletes.
