Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati at Lok Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Monday, September 21, 2026 during his visit to the neighbouring State.

The Chief Minister called on the Governor as part of a courtesy meeting and the two held discussions on various contemporary issues. The interaction also touched upon the close cultural relationship shared by Odisha and Chhattisgarh and opportunities for further cooperation between the two States.

Shared Cultural Bonds Between Two Neighbouring States

Governor Kambhampati, referring to the meeting, said the interaction included an exchange of views on the rich cultural heritage shared by Odisha and Chhattisgarh as well as development and cooperation in different fields. He said the meeting reflected the strong cultural bonds between the two States and the scope for further strengthening their shared ties.

The geographical proximity of Chhattisgarh and Odisha has been accompanied by longstanding cultural and social connections, particularly across their adjoining regions. Against this background, interactions between the leadership of the two States provide an opportunity to maintain dialogue on issues of mutual interest.

The Chief Minister, in his communication following the meeting, described it as a courtesy call during which various contemporary subjects were discussed. The original Chhattisgarh government release also confined itself to describing the interaction as a courtesy meeting and did not specify individual policy matters discussed.

Sai’s meeting with the Governor came during his two-day visit to Odisha. A day earlier, he had met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the latter’s official residence in Bhubaneswar. The two Chief Ministers discussed cooperation, development and public welfare involving the neighbouring States.

Dialogue Adds to Chhattisgarh-Odisha Engagement

The meeting at Lok Bhavan assumes broader significance against the backdrop of continuing engagement between Chhattisgarh and Odisha on matters affecting both States.

During his Odisha visit, Sai also spoke publicly about the long-running Mahanadi water-sharing issue. He said discussions had taken place between the two States and expressed confidence that the matter could be resolved. The Mahanadi issue, however, was not identified in the official release as a subject of Sai’s meeting with Governor Kambhampati, and should therefore not be presented as part of their discussions.

Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati has been serving as Governor of Odisha since taking office following his appointment in December 2024. Before assuming the Odisha assignment, he served as Governor of Mizoram.

The courtesy meeting in Bhubaneswar thus formed part of a wider series of interactions during Sai’s Odisha visit, with the emphasis on maintaining cordial relations and strengthening dialogue between two neighbouring States with significant cultural and developmental linkages.
