Raipur: Calling education the foundation of individual progress and nation-building, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday, September 13, 2026 said teachers do much more than impart classroom knowledge — they shape personalities, instil values and prepare generations that ultimately determine the future of society and the country.

Addressing the District-Level Teacher Honour and Meritorious Student Felicitation Ceremony at the Basic School Ground in Bemetara, Sai said education remains the most powerful means of moving forward in every sphere of life.

“Teachers shape the future of children and, through them, lay a strong foundation for the bright future of society and the nation,” the Chief Minister said.

The ceremony brought together generations of educators and students, with 81 retired teachers honoured for their contribution to education and 42 meritorious students recognised for outstanding performance in board and college examinations.

The retired teachers received shawls, coconuts, mementoes and certificates, while the meritorious students were presented gold medals and certificates on behalf of various social organisations.

A Teacher’s Influence Travels Across Generations

Congratulating the teachers and students, Sai recalled India’s long tradition of reverence for the guru, saying the influence of a teacher rarely ends with one student.

“The education given by a teacher does not remain confined to one student; its influence reaches the family, society and generations to come. That is why a teacher is called a nation-builder,” Sai said.

He described education as the light that dispels ignorance and equips people not only with knowledge but also with an understanding of their rights and responsibilities.

Education, he said, develops self-confidence and the ability to make informed decisions, while educated and value-oriented citizens provide the foundation for a strong society and a developed nation.

Referring to India’s historic centres of learning such as Takshashila and Nalanda, Sai said the country’s rich knowledge tradition continues to offer inspiration even as technology rapidly transforms the nature of education.

The challenge now, he said, is to combine that tradition with modern and quality education capable of preparing children for the demands of the future.

‘No Child Should Be Left Behind for Lack of Opportunity’

Sai said ensuring quality education and equal opportunities for every child remains a priority of the State Government.

“Our effort is that no child in Chhattisgarh should be left behind because of a lack of resources or opportunities,” he said.

Whether a child lives in a village or a city, or comes from an economically weaker or better-off family, every student should have the opportunity to develop talent, receive good education and pursue his or her aspirations, the Chief Minister said.

Sai pointed to the presence of institutions such as IIT, IIM, AIIMS and IIIT in Chhattisgarh as part of the expanding higher and technical education ecosystem available to the State’s youth.

He also referred to the expansion of Nalanda Parisar-type facilities for students preparing for competitive examinations, with libraries, study material and other academic resources. Facilities have also been made available in New Delhi for students from Chhattisgarh preparing for competitive examinations, he said.

The State, he added, is supporting students through scholarships, education loans and incentive schemes so that financial circumstances do not prevent talented young people from continuing their education.

The objective, according to Sai, is not simply to produce degree-holders but to prepare confident, skilled and capable young people who can contribute to Viksit Chhattisgarh and Viksit Bharat.

₹2 Crore Gaurav Path, New Power Sub-Station for Bemetara

The Chief Minister used the occasion to announce two development initiatives for Bemetara district.

Sai announced ₹2 crore for construction of a Gaurav Path in Bemetara city and a new electricity sub-station at Gram Panchayat Tiwariya.

He said the government was simultaneously strengthening education and expanding basic infrastructure, including roads, electricity and drinking-water facilities.

Better infrastructure in towns and villages, he said, would accelerate development while making everyday life more convenient for citizens.

Water Conservation Efforts Recognised

The programme also recognised work carried out under the “Mor Gaon Mor Pani” campaign for water conservation and improvement of groundwater levels.

Janpad Panchayats Bemetara, Berla and Nawagarh were specially honoured for efforts aimed at moving Bemetara district from the critical towards the semi-critical groundwater category.

Sai described water conservation as a responsibility towards future generations and said meaningful change becomes possible when government initiatives are supported by public participation.

A publication titled “Shikshak Smriti”, brought out by citizens and social organisations, was also released during the programme.

Education at the Heart of ‘Viksit Chhattisgarh’

Sai placed education within the State’s broader development agenda, saying the government was working for the welfare of farmers, women, young people and economically weaker families while using technology to make governance more transparent and citizen-centric.

He referred to initiatives including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Mahtari Vandan Yojana, Atal Monitoring Portal, Seva Setu and Chief Minister Helpline, saying the objective was to ensure that government schemes and services reach the last person in a simple and time-bound manner.

The Chief Minister said Chhattisgarh would have an important role in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India.

For that ambition to become reality, he said, the foundations of a developed Chhattisgarh would have to be built upon quality education, skilled youth and empowered villages and cities.

Sai also referred to the completion of 25 years of Modi’s public life and appealed to people across Chhattisgarh to light a lamp at their homes on the evening of September 17 as a symbol of commitment to service, development and public welfare.

Teachers Build Society and Nation: Arun Sao

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao said the guru has always occupied the highest position in India’s knowledge tradition.

Teachers remove the darkness of ignorance, spread the light of knowledge and guide new generations, he said, adding that their contribution extends beyond individual students to shaping society and the nation.

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Dayal Das Baghel said education gives people confidence and the strength to progress. Teachers, he said, have an equally important responsibility to impart values and help students become responsible citizens.

MLAs Deepesh Sahu and Ishwar Sahu, public representatives, senior officials, teachers, students and citizens were among those present at the programme.
