The weather in Dubai has taken a turn for the worse recently. The city has been gripped by heavy rains, strong winds, and hailstorms. Amidst this turbulent weather, a startling incident occurred recently when a bolt of lightning struck the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.

Amidst the recent storms and rainfall, a fierce bolt of lightning struck the Burj Khalifa—the world’s tallest skyscraper. At that moment, the entire sky lit up with a brilliant, milky-white glow. Many onlookers captured this spectacular moment on their cameras. Now, this video of the lightning striking the Burj Khalifa is going viral on social media.

The sight of lightning striking this colossal structure—standing approximately 2,722 feet tall—appeared as if nature were flexing its raw power, while the Burj Khalifa stood firm, attempting to withstand it. The UAE has experienced heavy rainfall throughout this week. Such a breathtaking spectacle is a rare sight indeed.

What Happened After Lightning Struck the Burj Khalifa?
According to a report by Gulf News, the scene that unfolded after lightning struck this 828-meter-tall building was enough to leave anyone awestruck. However, the lightning strike had no significant adverse effect on the Burj Khalifa itself. Furthermore, the strike caused no harm to the people present inside the building.

With a towering height of 828 meters, the Burj Khalifa stands as the tallest point in Dubai, making it an easy target for lightning strikes during storms. Simply put, the tower acts as a lightning conductor for the city; it safely attracts the electrical charge, thereby shielding the surrounding areas from the dangers of lightning strikes.

How Does the Building Remain Safe?
Even after being struck by lightning, the Burj Khalifa remained unscathed, and no harm came to the people inside the building. The reason for this is that the building is equipped with a smart lightning protection system. A specialized type of lightning rod is installed at the very top, designed to withstand a lightning strike. When lightning strikes, the current travels downward along the exterior of the building through a mesh of metal wires.

Where does the lightning go?
The tower’s steel frame acts as a safe conduit for the current. This ensures that the lightning is safely channeled downward. After exiting the building, the electric charge is safely dispersed into the ground through a grounding system.
