Second day’s play ends

While Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant bowling prevented England from scoring a huge score in the first innings, opener KL Rahul kept the Indian innings in control by scoring a half-century. England had scored 387 runs in the first innings. By the end of the second day’s play, India have scored 145 runs for three wickets in the first innings and are still trailing England by 242 runs. At the time of stumps, KL Rahul is at the crease with 53 runs and Rishabh Pant with 19 runs. Chris Woakes, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes have got one wicket each for England.

After bowling out England, India did not have a good start and lost the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal early, who was dismissed after scoring 13 runs with the help of three fours in eight balls. Yashasvi was batting aggressively, but was caught by Harry Brook off Jofra Archer. After this, KL Rahul along with Karun Nair took charge of the innings and there was a partnership of 61 runs for the second wicket between the two batsmen. This was broken by Ben Stokes by dismissing Karun. Karun was looking in good rhythm, but was dismissed after scoring 40 runs with the help of four fours in 62 balls.

England got the third wicket in the form of Shubman Gill. Chris Woakes gave the third blow to India by dismissing Shubman Gill. Captain Gill, who scored a double century and a century in the last Test, could not perform well in the first innings of the third Test match and was dismissed after scoring 16 runs.
