Chennai Super Kings (CSK) veteran wicketkeeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni has clarified his stand on retirement from this tournament after the match against Gujarat Titans. Dhoni clearly said that he will take some time and will decide after the next few months whether he will be available for the next season of IPL or not. CSK has ended the IPL 2025 season with a win by defeating Gujarat.
He was handling the captaincy in the absence of Gaikwad
There have been discussions many times about Dhoni’s retirement from IPL, but Mahi said that he still has enough time to take a decision on this. Dhoni was leading Chennai under the leadership of CSK’s regular captain Rituraj Gaikwad. CSK’s performance under Dhoni’s leadership was not good this season and the team could win only four out of 14 matches.
This was Dhoni’s answer to the question of retirement
This was CSK’s last match this season and all eyes were on Dhoni to see what he announces about his future. After the match, commentator Harsha Bhogle asked Dhoni about this, to which Mahi said that there is no hurry to take a decision on this. Dhoni said that every year he has to make 50 percent more effort to keep his body fit so that he can play in the IPL.
‘I will go home and enjoy riding a bike’
Dhoni said that he will now go back to his home and enjoy riding a bike, after which he will take a decision regarding IPL. However, Dhoni did not say anything about whether he will no longer play in the IPL or will return next season. Dhoni said, it depends. I will also say the same. I have four-five months to decide. There is no hurry to decide what to do. Every year 50% more effort has to be made to keep the body fit.
He said, if cricketers start retiring on the basis of performance, then very few of them will retire at the age of 22. It is important to see how much hunger and fitness you have and how much you can contribute to the team, whether the team needs you. I have a lot of time. I will go back to Ranchi, I have not been home for a long time. I will enjoy some bike rides and then take a decision after a few months. I am not saying that my work is done and at the same time I am not saying that I will come back. I have time.
