New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah has suffered a major setback in the case of his alleged controversial remarks targeting Colonel Sofia Qureshi. He did not get any relief from the court on Thursday May 15, 2025 . In fact, Vijay Shah had approached the Supreme Court against the High Court’s order to register an FIR for objectionable remarks. In the petition, Vijay Shah had demanded a stay on the FIR.

The Supreme Court agreed to hear Kunwar Vijay Shah’s petition tomorrow i.e. on May 16. The Madhya Pradesh High Court had ordered an FIR to be registered against Shah on May 14, 2025 . Shah had made comments against Indian Army officer Colonel Sofia Qureshi, who gave information to the media about the Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor. The Supreme Court reprimanded Kunwar Vijay Shah and said that when the country is going through such a situation, a person holding a constitutional post should be responsible. The Supreme Court said that he should know what he is saying.

The High Court has made a harsh comment on the statement of Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah on female army officer Colonel Sofia Qureshi and has called it cancerous and dangerous. The High Court directed the DGP to file an FIR against Vijay, after which the police filed an FIR against Vijay. After this Vijay Shah knocked on the door of the Supreme Court. The Madhya Pradesh minister demanded a stay on the FIR from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court asked what kind of statements are you making. Despite being a minister, what kind of language are you using. A person sitting on a constitutional post should realise his responsibility.

What did the High Court say?

Earlier, the High Court had said that the minister used gutter language, which is unacceptable. The division bench of Justice Atul Shridharan and Justice Anuradha Shukla described the statement calling Colonel Qureshi the sister of the terrorists of the Pahalgam attack as promoting separatist activities. It also said that it is going to endanger the unity and integrity of India.

The court said that the armed forces are probably the last institution in the country, which reflects honesty, discipline, sacrifice, selflessness and indomitable courage, with which any citizen of the country can associate himself. Vijay has targeted it. The bench said that Colonel Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh were the faces of the armed forces, who had informed the media about the progress of Operation Sindoor.

Colonel Qureshi is a follower of the Muslim religion. By calling her the sister of terrorists, a feeling was created that despite the selflessness and duties of a person, he can be ridiculed just because he is a Muslim.
