US Tariffs: The Trump administration has exempted some electronic goods from tariffs. This decision will benefit the general public as well as big tech companies. According to the information, these products are in high demand in the US and are produced in other countries, due to which American people get these goods at higher prices.

US President Donald Trump’s administration said on Friday April 11, 2025 (IST) that certain electronic goods will be exempted from reciprocal duty. This includes smartphones, laptops and some other technical equipment. This decision can provide relief to common consumers, as the possibility of increase in prices of these goods has now reduced.

Which things will be exempted?

According to the US Customs and Border Protection Department, many items have been exempted from tariff:-

Smartphones

Laptops

Semiconductor manufacturing machines

Flat-panel monitors (such as LED screens)

Who will benefit from this decision?

This decision will benefit the general public, because everyday technical items like smartphones and laptops will not become expensive. Apart from this, big tech companies like Apple and Samsung will also get relief, because many of their products are not made in America and they import them from other countries.

Why was the decision taken by the administration?

These products are in high demand in America, but they are mostly produced in countries like China, Korea and Vietnam. If heavy taxes were imposed on these, companies would suffer losses and customers would also get these things more expensive. That is why the Trump government decided to exempt them from tariffs.
