Elections in UP: There is going to be a big change in the level of elections in the state. Soon the people will have the right to directly elect the block pramukh and district panchayat president.

Lucknow: Like MPs and MLAs, the state government is also mulling over getting the District Panchayat President and Block Pramukh elected directly from the public in UP. If sources are to be believed, the state government may soon send a proposal to the central government in this regard. It is believed that if the Center approves this proposal of the state government, then this new election process will be implemented in the upcoming Panchayat elections.

State Panchayati Raj Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar has also confirmed this. He told that he has met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on FridayMay 30, 2025 itself and discussed this matter. He proposed to the Chief Minister that he should direct the officials to prepare a proposal regarding getting the District Panchayat President and Block Pramukh elected directly from the public. The proposal should be prepared and sent to the central government as soon as possible so that its preparation can be done in time.

Rajbhar says that the Chief Minister has agreed to his proposal and has also assured to send the proposal to the Center soon. He said that he wanted this in the last election itself. He will ask the officials to prepare a proposal for this. During this meeting, Om Prakash Rajbhar’s son and the national general secretary of Subhaspa, Arvind Rajbhar, was also present. Rajbhar said that last month he had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and discussed this issue, and Shah had also agreed to have the District Panchayat President and Block Pramukh elected directly by the people. He had asked the state government to send a proposal. Rajbhar said that in this regard, he has requested the Chief Minister to meet him.
