The fire brigade and police were informed about the incident. On receiving the information, CFO Mangesh Kumar, FSO Alambagh Dharampal Singh and FSO teams of other nearby fire stations along with two dozen vehicles reached the spot.
Lucknow: A massive fire broke out in Lucknow’s Lokbandhu Hospital at 9:30 pm on Monday night. The fire broke out in the ICU ward located on the second floor. There were about 25 patients admitted in the ward at that time. Before the patients and their attendants could understand anything, the fire took a terrible form. Seeing the flames of fire, there was a lot of shouting in the ward. Doctors and other staff tried to evacuate the attendants. Meanwhile, there was a stampede.
The hospital staff informed the CMS and other officials about the fire. After this, the fire brigade was called. By the time the fire brigade arrived, the fire had spread to other wards as well. There was a lot of shouting everywhere. Doctors, nurses, hospital staff and attendants started running here and there to save their lives. More than 250 patients were admitted in the entire hospital. The attendants somehow evacuated everyone. The fire spread to the entire campus in no time.
Smoke everywhere, then darkness prevailed
The flames of fire were so strong that smoke filled the entire area. The hospital staff cut off the electricity supply to the premises. This led to darkness everywhere. Due to this, people had to face difficulty in taking out the patients in the dark. There was screaming and shouting everywhere.
Save my father, he is trapped
Due to smoke and darkness everywhere, many patients got trapped in the ward. Some were pleading to save their father, while some women were asking for help to get their husband out. The local police somehow took out the patients trapped in the hospital with the help of torch and mobile phone light.
Fire brigade got stuck in the gate
The fire brigade vehicle that reached to extinguish the fire got stuck in the main gate of Lokbandhu Hospital. Due to the narrow path, the fire brigade could not enter inside. The driver tried hard for an hour, but did not succeed. After this, small vehicles were sent inside from the other gate, by then the fire had gone out of control.
CM Yogi took information by phone
CM Yogi took complete information about the incident from the officials on phone. Senior officials have reached the spot. Critical patients are being shifted to other hospitals. No one has died.
Firemen are also searching for many missing patients
Fireman Dilshad, who reached to extinguish the fierce fire, went missing. His news was not received for a long time. After this, a large number of firemen were sent inside with safety equipment. Meanwhile, many attendants came and complained about the disappearance of their patients.
Deputy CM reached, took information about the situation
Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak reached the spot after getting information about the fierce fire in the hospital. During this, he took information about the whole matter from the top officials of the Health Department and the District Magistrate. He told that after the fire, the patients trapped in the hospital have been safely evacuated, there is no loss of life as per the information so far.
Patients shifted to other hospitals
The patients evacuated from the hospital after the fire were shifted to different hospitals in the capital. Patients have been shifted to Civil, Balrampur, KGMU, Lohia and other hospitals. The health department has been alerted. Rescue and search operations were going on in the hospital till late night.
