The central government has entrusted the command of a delegation going abroad with India’s message against Pakistan to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. Politics has intensified on this. Congress had not proposed Tharoor’s name. Now Jairam Ramesh has taken a dig at Shashi Tharoor.
General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has taken a dig at Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for being included in the all-party delegation that will carry the message of India’s tough stand against terrorism after ‘Operation Sindoor’. Without naming Tharoor, Jairam Ramesh said that there is a difference between being in Congress and being of Congress. Congress is like the mighty Ganga, which has many tributaries. Some of them dry up and some get polluted.
The central government has formed seven all-party delegations to go abroad with India’s message against Pakistan. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has been given the command of one delegation. Politics has intensified on this. In fact, Shashi Tharoor’s name was not among the four names proposed by the Congress. The central government has proposed Tharoor’s name on its own.
Regarding this, Jairam Ramesh said that there is a huge difference between being in Congress and being of Congress. The government cannot include any of its MPs in the delegation without consulting the party. It has been a good democratic tradition that MPs joining the official delegation also take permission from their party leadership.
Regarding the action against Shashi Tharoor, the Congress General Secretary said that the government had asked for four names from the Congress and it has sent those four names. There will be no change in the names from the Congress side. The ball is now in the government’s court. No name was discussed during the conversation of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi.
Tharoor said – I feel honored by the invitation of the government
Accepting the nomination to lead the delegation, Tharoor said in a post on X that I am honored by the invitation of the Government of India to lead an all-party delegation to present our country’s view on recent events. When it comes to national interest and my services are required, I will not stay behind. Jai Hind!
Speaking to reporters, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that of course when the nation needs my services, I am available. This has nothing to do with party politics. It is related to what our country has suffered in recent times and we need to show solidarity.
He said that my party leadership has the right to express their opinion about my qualifications or lack thereof, and I think it is really for them to decide. I have no comment on this. I have been entrusted with this responsibility and I will fulfill this responsibility in the same way as I have fulfilled every responsibility entrusted to me in my long tenure, whether it is in the United Nations or in the Congress party.
Tharoor said that we have a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Monday and Tuesday. I had informed the party about the call I received two days ago. I also told the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs that I think they will talk to the party leadership of the opposition parties and they assured me that they will do so. I found it completely appropriate that the country should come together on this particularly important issue.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister shared information
Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju shared the official letter of the names of the leaders leading seven delegations to different countries. Kiren Rijiju said in a post shared on social media that at this time it is most important that India remains united. Seven all-party delegations will soon visit important partner countries and share our message of zero tolerance against terrorism with the world. This shows a strong message of national unity rising above politics beyond differences.
