Raipur : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday October 7, 2025 approved four important projects of the Ministry of Railways worth ₹24,634 crore. The approved projects include the Gondia-Dongargarh fourth railway line project, costing ₹2,223 crore, which will provide a new impetus to the industrial and commercial development of the western region of the state.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav for this important approval. Chief Minister Sai said that the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making this ambitious project a reality. Due to the dedicated efforts of the “Double Engine Government,” Chhattisgarh is rapidly progressing on the path of development.

He said that this decision is not only a historic step towards the development of Chhattisgarh, but this project will also provide new impetus to the economy of entire Central India, Sai affirmed .

Chief Minister Sai said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country’s rail network has entered a new era of modernity, speed, and public convenience. The continued support Chhattisgarh is receiving in this direction will become a strong foundation for the state’s industrial and economic expansion.

It is worth mentioning that the 84-kilometer-long project will pass through the districts of Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh) and Gondia (Maharashtra). It is targeted to be completed within five years. Under the project, 15 major bridges, 123 minor bridges, 1 tunnel, 3 road overbridges (ROBs), and 22 road underbridges (RUBs) will be constructed.

This project will not only facilitate passenger traffic in the aspirational district of Rajnandgaon but will also boost local trade and investment. This railway line will revitalise the regional economy and strengthen Chhattisgarh’s industrial landscape.

Upon completion, approximately 30.6 million tons of additional freight traffic will be possible annually. This will increase railway revenue and significantly ease the transportation of raw materials and finished products to the state’s industrial units.

Additionally, the reduction in CO₂ emissions by an estimated 230 million kilograms, savings of 46 million liters of diesel, and a reduction in logistics costs of approximately ₹514 crore will also have a highly positive environmental impact. This initiative will reduce carbon emissions equivalent to approximately 10 million trees annually, a major step towards sustainable development.

Chief Minister Sai stated that the new rail line will accelerate coal transportation from the Raigarh Mand, Korba, and Ib Valley mines, ensuring regular supplies to thermal power plants in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana. This will provide stability to both the state’s mineral economy and logistics system.

Chief Minister Sai said that the Gondia-Dongargarh fourth railway line project will provide a strong foundation for better transportation facilities, industrial progress and environmental balance to the people of Chhattisgarh.

“This project is a historic initiative to accelerate the all-round development of Chhattisgarh and towards the goal of “Vision Developed Chhattisgarh 2047.”CM Sai added.
