Several activists and children fainted at a rally for actor Vijay’s party, TVK. 20 people are feared dead. Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed concern over the incident and ordered immediate assistance and an investigation.

A stampede broke out during a rally for TVK chief Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu, due to a large crowd. Several people fainted in the chaos and were hospitalized. Around 20 people are feared dead. Police reportedly resorted to lathi charge to control the crowd. Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed concern over the incident and ordered an immediate investigation and medical assistance.

The stampede occurred while Vijay was delivering a speech in Karur. TVK chief Vijay interrupted his speech and handed out water bottles to the activists. He urged the crowd to make way for an ambulance. During the rally, a 9-year-old girl went missing, and Vijay requested help from party workers to find her. Police reportedly resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.

Police and rally organisers immediately responded to the girl and the unconscious attendees, creating chaos among the crowd at the rally site.

Actor Vijay criticized the DMK

He made a sarcastic remark, referring to former DMK minister Senthil Balaji. Without naming him directly, Vijay criticized the DMK for initially promising to build an airport in Karur but later asking the central government to build it.

Claims for a change in power in Tamil Nadu

During his speech, Vijay also said that there will be a change in power in Tamil Nadu politics within the next six months. The rally was part of Vijay’s ongoing statewide campaign ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. Officials and organisers controlled the situation, and the rally concluded without further disruption.

Tamil Nadu CM orders investigation into actor Vijay

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin responded to the incident and said that the reports coming from Karur were worrying. He said, “I have instructed that those trapped in the crowd and fainting be immediately hospitalised and provided medical assistance. I have spoken to East Minister Senthil Balaji, Minister Subramanian MA, and the District Collector in this regard.”

CM Stalin said, “Also, Minister Anbil Mahesh of neighboring Tiruchirapalli district has been instructed to provide immediate necessary assistance. I have also spoken to the ADGP so that the situation can be brought under control quickly. I appeal to the public to cooperate with the doctors and police.”
