Somewhere there were preparations and somewhere there was a huge crowd of devotees… See all the colours of Jagannath Yatra from Puri to Ahmedabad

As per tradition, every year, Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra will be taken out in the evening in the city of Puri in Odisha. Preparations for the Rath Yatra have been completed here. Every year, the Jagannath Rath Yatra is started on the second day of the Shukla Paksha of the Ashad month in the famous Jagannath temple of Puri, which is considered a grand and historical festival.

In the Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra will ride on three grand chariots and head towards their aunt’s house, the Gundicha temple. Lord Jagannath will be seated on the Nandighosha chariot, Balabhadra on the Taladhwaja, and Subhadra on the Darpadalan chariot.

The Rath Yatra will last for a total of 12 days and will conclude with Niladri Vijaya on 8 July 2025, when the Lord will return to his original temple again and will be installed in the sanctum sanctorum. Devotees from far and wide have reached Puri to participate in the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.

In view of the huge crowd of devotees, strict security arrangements have been made in Puri. Police, NDRF along with other security agencies are keeping an eye on the preparations of Rath Yatra.

Apart from Puri, Jagannath Yatra is also being taken out in Ahmedabad. The 148th grand divine Rath Yatra of Lord Shri Jagannath is going on with great pomp in Ahmedabad. The Jagannath Yatra started at 7 am. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel started the Rath Yatra by performing Pahind ritual. The idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra were seated on the chariot.

In this, a gold broom is placed in front of the chariot. The Rath Yatra includes 101 tableaux, 30 akhadas, 18 bhajan troupes and 3 band groups showcasing Indian culture. For the first time, Lord Jagannath was given a guard of honour before the Rath Yatra began.

Earlier, Mangala Aarti was performed at 4 am in the Jagannath temple. Home Minister Amit Shah performed the first ritual of the inauguration of the Yatra with Mangala Aarti. Amit Shah’s family also participated in it.

During this time, Khichdi was offered to the Lord, after which the CM started the Rath Yatra by performing the Pahind ritual. The Lord will return to the main temple at around 8:30 pm.

Apart from Puri and Ahmedabad, the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is also being taken out in Digha, West Bengal. The Rath Yatra here is also inspired from Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra.
