New Delhi: Shaheed Diwas 2025: January 30 is a very special day in the history of the country. On this day, the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, is celebrated every year. Mahatma Gandhi launched many movements against the British to liberate the country. Due to the movements, he had to stay in jail many times. In view of the work done by him for the independence of the country, his death anniversary on January 30 is celebrated as Martyr’s Day.
History of 30 January
On 30 January 1948, just a few months after the country got independence on 15 August 1947, the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, was shot dead by Nathuram Godse at Birla House in Delhi. Due to this, 30 January is celebrated every year as the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and it is also celebrated as Martyr’s Day on the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat.
Importance of Martyr’s Day
On the 30th January – Martyr’s Day, the brave sons who sacrificed their lives for India are remembered. On Martyr’s Day, the President, Prime Minister and other high officials / leaders of India go to Rajghat and remember Gandhiji by paying floral tribute at his samadhi site. After this, tribute is paid to Mahatma Gandhi and other brave martyrs by observing 2 minutes of silence .
