US President Donald Trump has announced a 100% tariff on the import of patented and branded medicines, which will come into effect on October 1. A 50% tariff has also been imposed on furniture. Meanwhile, a major update has come regarding the India-US trade agreement.
According to an official statement from the Indian Commerce Ministry, the Indian delegation, headed by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, held several meetings with the US from September 22-24, 2025. There have been positive reactions from both sides, and it is believed that an agreement on tariff reduction may soon be reached.
In addition to interacting with leading American businesses and investors, the Union Minister also met with US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer and US Ambassador-Designate to India Sergio Gor.
