“Pragati College Students celebrate Chhattisgarh’s traditional folk festival “Pola” by wearing traditional clothes and worshipping Oxen

Pola is a thanksgiving festival celebrated by farmers in Chhattisgarh, to acknowledge the importance of oxen, who are a pivotal part of agriculture and farming activities.
Raipur: Chhattisgarh’s traditional and famous folk festival “Pola” was celebrated on Saturday August 23, 2025 . This traditional and famous festival is specially dedicated to farmers and agricultural labourers, in which their most important companions, Oxen are worshipped.

India is an agricultural based country. Where Oxen /bulls have been an integral part of farming for centuries. In this holy festival of Pola, along with special worship of bulls made by clay are also worshipped by mark the “Pola” Tihar .

In this traditional festival, Chhattisgarhi dishes Thethri, Khurmi and Shriphal are offered to bulls .
The students of the College expressed their views through songs and reciting poems related to Pola festival by wearing traditional clothes.

Delivering her speach the Principal of the college Dr Soumya Nayyar said that this is a major folk festival connected to the cultural soul and agricultural tradition of Chhattisgarh. In this, farmers celebrate the festival for their well-being and prosperity.
This festival was celebrated with the cooperation of the cultural and co-curricular activity committee and the education department of Pragati College.
“All the Professors , Administrator and students joined the event” with great zeat and zeal .
