Raipur: The Commerce and Management Department of Pragati College, Raipur, organised a Student Development Programme on “Role of Business Analyst” on Friday, October 30, 2026. Featuring Prof. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Head of Training at PIBM, as the guest speaker, the programme provided students with an informative and interactive introduction to a professional role that connects business requirements, analytical thinking and organisational decision-making.

The session brought students together for an opportunity to learn about business analysis beyond their regular classroom studies. Prof. Singh’s interaction encouraged them to consider how commerce and management knowledge relates to responsibilities in the workplace.

His presentation outlined key aspects of a business analyst’s work, including understanding business requirements, analysing data, improving processes and communicating between business and information technology teams. Software evaluation, testing, reporting and decision support also featured among the responsibilities presented during the session.

These areas helped place the programme’s central theme in a practical context. Rather than viewing business analysis as an isolated technical function, students were introduced to the range of activities through which analysts help organisations understand their needs and identify possible improvements.

The programme also highlighted the connection between subject knowledge and professional communication. Understanding a business problem requires careful examination, while explaining requirements and possible solutions calls for clarity and coordination between people with different responsibilities.

For Commerce and Management students, the topic offered a useful connection with their academic interests. Business analysis draws on an understanding of organisations and their processes, alongside the ability to interpret information and communicate findings effectively.

The interactive format gave students an opportunity to engage with the guest speaker and develop their understanding of the subject. According to the department, the session was informative and interactive, making it a valuable addition to students’ learning experience.

The programme provided exposure to a career area in which business understanding and analytical abilities work together. It also encouraged students to look beyond course titles and consider how the knowledge they acquire can be applied to professional tasks and organisational challenges.

Dr. Amit Kumar Thakur, Head of the Commerce and Management Department, attended the programme along with faculty members of the department. Their presence supported the academic interaction and the department’s effort to provide students with opportunities for learning beyond the prescribed curriculum.

By bringing an external training professional into direct conversation with students, the programme created a link between academic study and workplace expectations. It offered participants a broader perspective on business analysts’ responsibilities and the skills relevant to such work.
