Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan were present in the meeting with Rajnath Singh.
After the failed drone and missile attacks by Pakistan on the night of May 8-9, 2025 , Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held an important meeting with the CDS and the chiefs of the three armies on Friday May 9 , 2025 . The picture that has emerged of the meeting has given a big message to the country and the world. All the officers present in this high-level meeting held in a closed room not only looked calm, restrained and confident, but their restraint with a light smile in the picture reflects India’s strategic stability and preparedness.
The meeting was attended by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan. The confidence shown in the picture was not just emotional relief, but a clear message: “India is safe, the leadership is alert and there is no need to panic.”
Two-hour strategic discussion
This meeting of the Defense Minister, Chief of Defence Staff and the three army chiefs lasted for two hours. During this, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi gave information on the current situation with Pakistan, while Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh presented details of the Indian Air Force’s retaliatory actions.
Picture of confidence amidst air strikes
When Pakistan attacked Indian military installations with drones and missiles, the Indian air defence system immediately became active. The 1,800 km long air defence grid spread across the country destroyed more than 50 drones mid-air and protected more than 15 important installations.
Pakistan’s panic after Operation Sindoor
On May 8, India destroyed 9 terrorist bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir with precise air strikes under Operation Sindoor. This action was taken in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, in which 26 innocent people lost their lives. In response to this, the kind of air provocation policy adopted by Pakistan collapsed in front of India’s coordinated, strategic and technical response.
Massive anti-drone operations in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab
The Army, in collaboration with air defence units, carried out a massive anti-drone operation in Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota (all in Jammu and Kashmir) and Pathankot (Punjab). The operation used L-70 guns, ZU-23 mm, Shilka, and other anti-drone systems, reflecting the Indian Army’s tremendous capability to thwart aerial threats in real time.
India’s defensive power includes the Russian-made S-400 air defence system, known as the ‘Sudarshan Chakra’, which played a key role in thwarting attacks at around 50 locations. Along with this, Israeli-origin Harop drones were used for precise counter-strikes, which further strengthened the strategic balance in India’s favour. Sirens and explosions were heard in areas like Akhnoor, Samba, Baramulla and Kupwara as the Indian Army maintained aggressive aerial surveillance throughout the night.
Demonstration of leadership strength and military capability
The picture of Rajnath Singh and the army chiefs reflects confidence even in times of crisis. The picture shows that it has now become a symbolic image of India’s strategic resolve. It not only gives confidence to the public, but also makes it clear to the world that India is strong even though it is peace loving.
