Over 16,000 Rescued as Flood Relief Operations Intensify Across Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR: More than 16,000 people have been moved to safety as the Chhattisgarh government and district administrations continue large-scale rescue and relief operations in areas affected by heavy rainfall and flooding across the state.

According to the state government, joint teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and district administrations have rescued 16,074 people from affected areas despite difficult conditions.

Helicopters have also been deployed in Bastar and Bijapur districts to evacuate people stranded in locations difficult to reach through conventional rescue operations.

As of September 27, flooding has affected 22,377 people in 571 villages across Chhattisgarh.

A total of 173 relief camps have been established, providing shelter to 17,540 people. Arrangements for food, safe drinking water, medical examinations, medicines and other essential facilities are being maintained at the camps. Officials are continuously monitoring conditions in affected areas, with camps to remain operational according to local requirements.

Damage Assessment and Relief Underway

The floods have completely damaged 199 houses, while another 1,155 houses have suffered partial damage. Revenue officials are conducting surveys to assess damage to houses and other property.

Eligible families will be provided financial assistance under the provisions of Revenue Book Circular (RBC) 6-4, with the administration directed to expedite assessment and relief.

The disaster has also resulted in eight reported human deaths and 172 livestock deaths. District administrations have been instructed to provide relief in eligible cases according to the prescribed norms and extend necessary assistance to affected families.

The state government is continuing to review rescue and relief operations, with the immediate priorities being the evacuation of people from vulnerable locations, provision of essential facilities at relief camps and timely assessment of losses so that assistance can reach eligible families without delay.
