Innocent tourists were attacked by terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. 26 tourists lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack. The very next day of this attack, India announced the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan after a high level meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The government had also informed Pakistan about this decision. This agreement was signed between the two countries in 1960. India’s Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistan’s dictator Ayub Khan signed this agreement after a decade of negotiations. Under this treaty, the water of the six rivers of the Indus river system – Beas, Ravi, Sutlej, Indus, Chenab and Jhelum – was divided.

In response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor late on the night of May 6 and 7. Under this operation, the military forces destroyed nine terrorist hideouts located in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as well as Punjab province by missile strikes. After this operation which lasted for about 22 minutes, the next night Pakistan tried to launch drone and missile attacks on many cities of India, which was foiled by the security forces.
The next day India fired missiles on Pakistan’s military bases. For four days, there was a war like situation between the two countries and later after DGMO level talks, ceasefire was declared. Although ceasefire was done with Pakistan, Modi government set a new direction of diplomacy. The government made it clear that now any terrorist attack in India will be considered an act of war. The Indian government also sent all party delegations abroad to expose Pakistan in front of the world.

This rail bridge is higher than the Eiffel Tower. With the inauguration of this bridge, the operation of Vande Bharat train from Katra to Srinagar has also started. This will ensure connectivity of Kashmir with other parts of the country in every season. The British had also planned to connect Kashmir with other parts of the country through rail route, but they could not succeed. This railway project of 1983 has now taken a concrete shape and is one of the major achievements of the first year of Modi Government 3.0.
