Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra elections. He has demanded transparency from the Election Commission. He has also demanded that the voter list and CCTV footage of polling stations along with other evidence be made public. At the same time, the Election Commission has rejected all the allegations made by Rahul Gandhi. The Commission says that this is an attempt to defame the election process.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday June 7 , 2025 attacked the Election Commission. He said that the credibility of the Election Commission will not be saved by evasiveness, but by speaking the truth. This reaction of Rahul Gandhi has come after the Election Commission has rejected the allegations of rigging in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had alleged match fixing in the 2024 Maharashtra elections. He claimed that the same will happen in Bihar and all those states where the BJP is losing in future. Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X, ‘Dear Election Commission, you are a constitutional body. Issuing unsigned, evasive notes to mediators is not the way to answer serious questions.’

Election Commission should answer the questions asked in the article

Rahul Gandhi further said that if you have nothing to hide, then answer the questions asked in my article and prove it. Also, make public the complete and machine-readable voter list of the recent Lok Sabha and Assembly elections of all states including Maharashtra. Rahul Gandhi has demanded that all CCTV footage of polling stations in Maharashtra after 5 pm should also be released. Gandhi also said, ‘Cheating will not protect your credibility. Speaking the truth will.’

Election Commission rejected Gandhi’s allegations

The Election Commission had earlier rejected Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of alleged rigging in the Maharashtra elections. Responding to Rahul’s allegations, the Election Commission said that such allegations question the hard work of thousands of representatives appointed by political parties and lakhs of election staff and defame and discourage them. The Election Commission said that the allegations made regarding the voter list of Maharashtra are baseless and it is an insult to the rule of law.

Match-fixed elections are poison for democracy

Rahul Gandhi emphasised in his article that match-fixed elections are ‘poison’ for any democracy. He wrote that whichever party commits fraud in the election may win the election, but it harms democracy and breaks the trust of the public.
